Dometic RV toilet seal gap and leak

Funny, I just ordered a new soft-close seat for my Thetford and it came with a new seal. Seems odd.

Just tried the hot water suggestion. Did not work. These seals are not thick enough!

That could very well be. The knock-off seal I bought apparently is thick enough because after I followed the procedure in the Dometic manual (water and grease), it's holding water fine.

Stopped by my rv repair shop to discuss. Really good place. Always busy so hard to get in quick. After we talked about my issue, he ask what brand and model toilet I had. Told him what it was. He said replace that POS toilet. Nothing but issues. Most of rv’s he services with toilet issues is the same model I have and end up replacing it. I’ve had issues since day one with this toilet. Will be replacing it with a porcelain toilet after I get back from my trip. Thanks for all the replies.

Just a tip for folks who experience this dilemma. My replacement isn’t until middle of the month. On my current trip, went to Walmart and bought a 5 inch ball. Not plastic. It’s a squeeze type. Can’t open the flipper to put in as water will run. I put ball on top with a little squeeze. This stopped the smell. Just have to remove before using the toilet. Another thought was a water balloon filled to about 5 inches in diameter.

OK, now I'm confused. In your beginning post you provided this link to the seals................

Which is for Dometic 300/310/320 toilets............... so I assumed that you had one of those models.................

The 300 is plastic, but the 310/320 (and 311/321 short versions) are porcelain bowl/plastic base.

What do you have out of curiosity? the 300 (or 301 short version)

(The Dometic web site no longer shows the 300 series toilets. They are all numbered 400 series)

The 310 IS a ceramic bowl.

I had to select bone color as I could not find it in white. As I noted before, it appears that the 300 series has been discontinued, so the only ones are remaining stock and usually the odd colors. 400 series is the current models on the Dometic web site.
