I see it says "Zzyzx Road is a 4.5-mile-long (7.2 km), part paved and part dirt,". Perhaps we turned around when the pavement stopped. Too long ago to remember well.

Yeah, I can recall overnight lows above 100F/38C in some desert areas in the summer. And when outside, if any wind, it feels like a blast from a furnace. The wind can be higher than body temperature, so can even make it hotter.The worst part is that the evenings are also hot.
