If it makes the wearer feel better, why not?
The drug commercials where they tell you dont take it if you are allergic to it are some of the most annoying to me
And the ones that say, "If you are allergic to XXX or any of its ingredients, don't take it." How the heck would you know? You know, since no one ever heard of the ingredients in it before it hit the market.

Remembering many years ago, probably pre-teen, when I questioned why the bra commercial was so concerned about its attractive design when it was underwear that only the user would see it.

If you saw it when you were a pre-teen, you didn't understand that women buy a bra sometimes to impress someone other than herself. It's a girl thing.

Commercials have no effect on me given I haven't watched any in years. Only watch recorded shows where I can skip 'em and never watch OTA as it's just too painful not being able to pause/skip.

At times someone will ask me, "Did you see that commercial where..?" Uh, no. Sorry.

As long as they dont repeat the same ones constantly i dont mind them as long as im not paying for the tv service. The really stupid ones make me want to avoid using that product. There are some very amusing ones too

"Side effects may include bleeding from the ears, seizures, and genital rot"
...and all the people on the commercial are laughing and singing and drinking.

This is because they know that a few months from now, they can start producing all the ads from lawyers offering lots of money as the result of lawsuits after having a bad reaction to that same drug. In other words, they want you to take it so you will have a bad reaction, and then they can make money advertising lawsuits afterwards.

So Big Pharma in concert with advertisers (the messenger) disclose the side effects of a particular drug so Big Pharma and the advertisers can make money when it is litigated for adverse reaction to the drug?

Absolutely!! How can you know if you are allergic to it without taking it?? And only an idiot would continue to take something he or she had an allergic reaction to!
But it may be too late then. You also have to investigate inter-reactions to other medications you may be taking.

Only dumb people watch commercials to decide what they are going to buy. Therefore the ads are aimed at dumb people.
My ex worked in advertising. A number of times I mentioned something about an ad being stupid and who would listen to it and make their buying decision based on how that ad is constructed. She said the amount of study into what makes people buy would astound you.

I told her, "I'm the average consumer and that ad is probably one of the silliest things I've seen. It actually makes not want their product." She replied, "No you are not the average consumer. The average consumer actually watches/listens to ads and you never do. You're one of those people who goes into the store with a list and you buy what is on the list...period, nothing more...then you leave. A large percentage of shoppers wander the aisles looking for things they may have neglected to put on their list. Those are the people advertising executives are looking for."

I'm similar to how she describes you, and I have trouble watching commercials (actually, I fast forward, mute and do something else, or both). I think it started for me many years back when they started putting rock "music" into commercials, as well as making them noticeably louder than the show, not to mention some other weird things they did, as well as making the commercial segments 4-5 minutes long instead of 1 or 2 minutes, basically going from 25+ minutes of show to 20-21.

And I totally concur with your statement: It actually makes me not want their product.

I'm also fed up with most things I want now requiring me to shop online- used to be I could find them in a store, but now they apparently aren't popular (i.e. selling) enough to stock.

Oops- triggered one of my buttons, so I'd best stop here...

saw a commercial for flood insurance but the website name seemed kinda dumb to me for an insurance company. The commercial itself wasnt dumb but the website name makes me want to avoid them

I record or TiVo everything to avoid commercials. Can not stand sitting through them.
That is a good strategy but i dont like how much you have to spend for entertainment. I think tivo is great but i dont want to spend the money on top of other entertainment costs. I can live with the commercials but if they get much worse i might change my mind
