Has anyone heard about the E-450 with the V-10 having blowouts on the right rear?
thanks
Floyd

Never heard of such a thing and, to my knowledge there is not reason for it...unless you've only "heard" about it and misunderstood the statement.  The early (pre-2001 or so) V-10 had a problem blowing sparkplugs due to one (I think #3) plug hole having too few threads.

Are we talking about tire blowouts or something else?  Any particular year - the E450 cutaway chassis has been available since about 2001 and has come in several different configurations.

In broad terms, I haven't heard of any general complaints about the E450 chassis, but the early V10 engines did have the spark plug issue that Molaker mentioned. That was not unique to the E450, though.

looking at tires for a RV on an E-450 And ran into some talk about this seems like it was a few people even with new tires. I am looking at an 2001 sunseeker with the v-10 now you have me wondering about the spark plug problem. Is there any way of knowing if this engine would have that spark plug problem & if it did happen what is the fix??
Darn internet can sometimes make things difficult
thanks

Actually, my MH is an E-450 on a 1999 chassis (2000 MH).  As for what years the problem exists, I'm not sure, but I think it was '99 thru '04.  The problem was described by Ford as the fault of incorrect plug torque or improperly cleaning when changing plugs.  They have never admitted to there being too few threads although the problem seems to have miraculously gone away after the heads were modified - for the 3 valve engine, I think.  Still, no known history of blowing tires.  Perhaps it could have been a specific make/model that was near overload on one side at the rear???

I have never heard of that tire issue but it reminded me of something my old mechanic told me. In some areas of the country there are a lot of two lane roads with no curb on the passenger side, the pavement just ends. He reported that it was more common to find bad wheel bearings on the passenger side. Reasons, running of the edge of the pavement, the edge of the pavement tends to be in rougher shape that near centerline and hitting curbs.

With the longer wheelbase of most RVs I could see how the outside tire could hit a curb more often which could cause damage that could result in a blow out.

If you Google E-450 right rear tire blow out you will find A lot of info on it. Looks like mainly in hot climates.
Now would this spark plug  blow out problem stop you from buying a 2001 rig with the V-10???
Thanks

I just returned from South Texas in my '99 Pace Arrow with 16,000 milesV-10,  and the original Goodyear tires. I have them checked at Goodyear shops the last 3 years, and have had np problems. They say "Regroveable" on the sidewalls. I'll give them another year b/4 replacing, and sell the used takeoffs for $50.00 each.  Eddie Elk.

So, I did Google it and yes there were problems, but it seems to be as much a Firestone problem as a Ford problem.  The Ford SUVs had a problem then, too, and they were Firestones.  Firestone never admitted a problem, but Ford dumped them and the problem seems to have gone away.

So, if the problem you were referring to is this problem, there s/b no problem today as the tires s/b replacements by now.  (now that's a lot of "problem") :)

My 2000 Coachman Santara had the Firestone tires fail at 40,500 miles back in 2005
Firestone did nothing. The side walls delaminated.

I have the V 10 Engine and Molaker is correct.
The early model V 10's had only 4 threads on the plugs and if you installed plugs at more than 20 INCH pounds, you could
rip out the threads . To see if you have the right Aluminum  heads, remove the dog house and look at the ends of the head.
The year is marked on the heads. Mine says 1999.  The new heads with 8 thread plugs will be 2001 and later
