If the bayonet fitting had been used to dump, I'd be concerned about any residual coating that might interfere with good adhesion. Light sanding would be good insurance.

I'll take your word for it instead of trying it...

Actually, the more I think about it, ABS connections use a solvent cement that melts the fittings together with minimal if any heat as I recall from my plumbing days.
