Electric Brake Problem

Hi,

towing 5th wheel (2007 Keystone Copper Canyon) with f350 6.0.  The brake controller (Primus IQ) is showing codes for short (SH) and power loss (PL).  I've replaced the well used connector on the truck and the pig tail on the trailer (the 2 easiest possible solutions).  I've even borrowed a Prodigy and it's showing the same codes.  the brakes are getting voltage, and the problem is intermittent - the codes are not constant.  In some instances, I'll press on the brake, the display #'s start to increase and then the codes appear.

I'm thinking i might just replace the wiring to the brakes since the existing wiring is internal to the trailer and a pain to get to.

can anyone suggest where to start to look for a short or bad ground before i replace the wiring?

thanks,
Dave

If you have brake wiring going inside the axle tubes, that would be a good place to start.  The wires rub inside causing the insulation to wear thru and then there will be intermittent shorts.  Simply run wire on the outside of the axle.
