Electric brakes seem to be more complicated to use with wiring, controller, towing with different vehicles, etc. Does the downside to surge brakes, down hill slopes, etc. still make electric brakes preferable? Is the weight of the trailer and load a factor in choice?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

The weight of the trailer is clearly a factor as surge brakes are not recommended after a specific weight.

Just what that weight is, I don't know

Personally I like the idea of trailer brakes I can control FROM THE DRIVER'S SEAT, surge brakes do not fall in that category... Though they are less expensive, that's for sure

I have done surge brakes on a 2 ton, 20-foot ocean going boat's trailer.  I am doing electric brakes on my 2-1/2 ton, 23 foot travel trailer.  It will be a cold day in hell before I use surge brakes again.

Next question.  ;D
