Members discussed frustration with EV charging stations that require apps or accounts instead of simple credit card payment. One member said Tesla charging is generally much easier, with plug-in-and-walk-away operation, and noted EV-Go can offer auto-charge after setup, while ChargePoint may use RFID cards. It was also noted that some non-Tesla CCS chargers now accept credit cards, but others still require an app or phone-based payment, and reliability or access problems can still occur...

Another reason not to drive an EV. Why can't the charging stations just have a credit card slot like gas pumps?
I fully agree, with one BIG exception. .. . Tesla. And perhaps EV-Go.

But there are many non-Tesla CCS chargers now that do accept CCs, but there are also many that do not. For a while it was none at all, but that was because the EV charge CC went by an internet connection and were still on the 3G system that no longer existed.

Only Tesla does a great job in keeping their chargers working. Not only that, it is easier to charge a Tesla than going to a gas pump. No screens, no buttons (unless you want to use the button on the charge handle to open your Tesla Charge Door via wireless)<not required> just plug in and walk away and do whatever is in the area for 20 minutes or so.

Also, EV-Go CCS, after the account is set up, after a couple of more charges by the old method, you will have auto-charge on EV-Go. All I need to do with my Energica motorcycles is plug in, just like the Tesla, but only at EV-Go. But Chargepoint (the largest EV charge network int the USA other than Tesla) doesn't have this. But you can get a RFID card to activate their machines which is just as easy. I have several of those cards.

But there are many EV chargers where you MUST have the app and no other way to charge up . . . But . . .

Every charge station I have seen has a phone number to call where they usually can accept a credit card over the phone,

But sometimes there is this problem.

How would a sealed gas tank catch fire?
Are you saying they survive forest fires and other such issues?

OTOH, my Class A has an 80 gallon gas tank which is normally close to full. Up to another 55 gallons in my Class C.

It is not all that uncommon for ICVs to catch fire, have many more times the fire rate of EVs. But EV fires are very difficult to put out, even if possible--but that problem will soon be solved with the new SS batteries that we should see by the end of this year.

BTW, how many people do you know who pump gas at home for vehicles? Lawn mowers and such often, but I do not know of anybody who has stored gasoline at home for their vehicles.

I really does sound like more trouble than an EV, IMAO, where I charge at home any time I wanna.

I don't think I would want 300 gallons of gasoline in my garage.

Tank was outside in a protected area well away from anything that might burn
It's a standard gravity feed tank. Mounted high up on a frame. Ladder to fill gravity to Pump to vehicle. Very common on farms.

I am not sure if even that would be a good idea for this very high fire risk area.

That is because California does not use proper forest management and brush control.

Many folks like having an alternative energy source that is not chained to line power, which in particular in Ca. comes from other states.
