All this controversy about EV's vs ICE cars could really have been avoided if we simply had listened to Francis and Frelan Stanley, and Howard Hughes. Clean, abundant fuel source, smooth acceleration, no transmission required, straightline torque from a standstill, and WAY less moving parts.

I dont get it! At present ICE's are the standard. Hybrids do the job for many who have mixed uses for them. Day to day commuting is easily handled with electric powered EV's, while longer trips are supported with the ICE. Each has its own requirements and or benefits. Why not just pick the right vehicle to do the job for you based on your needs??
One example is apartment dwellers. How do they charge their EV's today?? None of them needs to be mutually exclusive.. In fact I like the idea that we have the choice.

Out here in the west, all new apartment buildings must have EV charge stations. Yes, EVs can be a hassle for some. And ICVs can be a hassle for others (like me).

Here in CA, new homes must be "EV ready". But a simple 240 VAC outlet in the garage qualifies. EVs can also charge at 120 VAC but that takes several days to get a full charge, That is around 1,5 KW, But from a 14-50R, it can do close to 12KW, 8 times faster to charge.

BTW, places where renting is the norm, such as in San Francisco, there are more EV charge stations than normal. SF has around 1,500 EV charge stations. More than most places. Some are DCFCs in buildings, such as shown here at 928 Harrison St San Francisco, CA 94107:
