EV reliability compared to ICE

. But . . .many of the others only charge up for free at work. Level two charging. See here. No need to even charge at home among most of those.

"over 25% of EV drivers using workplace charging reported using it weekly, and nearly another 25% reported using it daily."

Thats one of my examples I said “employees.” Employees are local. Not commuting from Michigan.

And if MOST don’t need or use public charging, we need to quit subsidizing it with tax dollars.

Charging stations right off a hwy you’d be somewhat correct. But not at a bank or Walmarts.
Why do you assume travelers will not use a Wal*mart or a bank? Also, they could charge at these places and walk to their destination which is near the bank or Wal*Mart.

BTW, I have used both bank charging as well as Walmart charging for my motorcycles. But I was not that close to home any of those times.

And I never did bank business when using a bank charger. Not ever. And I have used several.

I charged at this bank on 10, Aug, 2020 (motorcycle). I have never been inside that bank. I had lunch near there, IIRC. Slow L2 free to use charge station.

I charged at this Wal*Mart on 25, July 2023 (also motorcycle). I never went inside, but it was a short wait outside. DCFC at 22KW to a motorcycle, only took a few minutes.

I also used the charger at this bank, on 19, June, 2024 when the bank was closed. Also motorcycle for a ride from Auburn to Reno via going around Lake Tahoe (many miles out of the way). I also never been inside that bank, but used their chargers a few times.

So don't assume because one charges at the location that is where they are going. They could pass the chargers right at the freeway exist because they want to walk around the town for 15-to 20 minutes or whatever time their charge takes.

Most EVs show all the nearby chargers on request. Freeway exit can be a boring location for somebody who is not in a big hurry.

Plugshare shows me the dates of the last time I used the charger, that's how I posted the dates. You will not see that. I am a Plugshare member, so it shows me more info. But you should be able to see my logins for those dates.

It’s NOT all about YOU:eek::oops:

We are talking about the averages of the general population. :giggle:

Not for the DCFC that are at Wal*Marts. Those are not normally used for employees. Those are DC Fast Chargers at Wal*Mart. Way too fast, unless they can come back out and move the vehicle in a few minutes. When they are done charging, if still plugged in, it can cost a buck per minute for hogging up the station and NOT charging. But the first 15 minutes don't count. The per minute "fine" starts 15 minutes after the charge stops. The charge progress can be monitored on a smartphone.

The work chargers were referring to Level Two chargers. 240 VAC SLOW charging. They can take the full 8 hours to get a full charge. But many variables with that. Some of these AC charge stations can be as low as 3KW and some can be as high as 12 KW.

That's why I posted those links in message 140. Those were to cover the "most people" types who own EVs.

I was not even mentioned in those articles!

The benefits of ev ownership just keep adding up
They should do the same at gas stations. Ever wait behind a guy in a busy gas station that goes in to pay in cash, stays about a half hour in there, comes back out to fill his tank and then goes back in to get his change and then takes another half hour, blocking the pump you need to use?

Most EVers find it a big advantage that they have these fines for EVs who hog up the stations for nothing.

There used to be a much bigger problem, called "ICEING", That was when an ICE car or truck would deliberately block a charge station. At first, there was no law against this any many of the EV haters did it deliberately. That stopped when the signs went up for a $500.00 fine for a gas vehicle parking in an EV charge slot--with a number to call when the ICE vehicle is towed away. And pay for that also.

How has the world survived to this point without EV's? I ready to buy 3 or 4 of them!! I think if you buy 2 you get a set of encylclopedias.

That's not the question I asked. You just think it should be that question. The question is just as I asked it. After all the wonderfulness you tout about EV's how have we survived this long without them? And we may be farther from the limit than EV zealots want us to believe. Just depends upon perspective.

The same way we survived with leaded gasoline, leaded paint, and smoking in restaurants and much, much more.

And the same way we survived without OBD1 and OBD2 and C. Converters, seat belts, motorcycle helmets, smog tests, auto trannies and much more.

Over 80% prefer home charging. First article.
Over 80% also charge at work. Second article.

Yes they charge at home. But it doesn’t mean they don’t charge locally when at work or running errands.

But it doesn’t mean they don’t charge locally
Why would somebody locally charge at a public DCFC and pay more if they can get a 300-mile range from their home charge station at half the KWH price while they sleep or whatever?

Sure, perhaps somebody forgot to plug in for a week and got the SOC% too low & then needs to go to work in the morning and can only make it to the local DCFC and stuff like that. But stuff like that will be very rare.

But if it's a slow AC charge station that is free to use, sure, and there is a name for that, it's called "opportunity charging". Wal*Mart does NOT have those types of charge stations--but I wish they did!

Why??? I don’t know. You posted those polls. I just posted what they showed.

WHY does someone put fuel in a vehicle that still has 1/4 or 1/2 tank.
