EV Sales Rebound and Used EV Deals Disappearing Soon?

My timing is impeccable. A few months ago I reluctantly sold my VW TDI which averaged 33 city and 47 highway (62 once when my wife drove it 200 miles) and bought a Ford Ranger 2.7 ecoboost. Getting right at 17-20 on premium fuel. The VW was starting to get uncomfortable on long trips as we got older.

I'll bet that car went up in value now though.

Is that Ranger mileage highway? I ask because my F150 with the 2.7 gets around 26 highway, and 18-20 around town.

It looks like my highway MPG is closer to 24. Keeping in mind almost all of my highway driving involves mountain grades. It's the only way out of this desert.

Since an EV is only practical in an urban area

Of course what is practical for one will be impractical for another, urban or not.

If one lives 100 miles from the nearest gas station. That can be a hassle with ICE.

If EV, charge at home, use solar if off grid, becomes more practical for many.

Remember when I visited my buddy Paul who lives 100% off grid in the middle of nowhere in the mountains of NM? His only car is a Tesla, charged by his homebrew large solar system, which I used when I rode there on my Zero DS motorcycle from White Rock, NM. Only around 40 miles from the nearest gas station in this case.

Here are cheaper and less glorified versions of EVs. I consider these to be a better value for around town use.

IMO, it's the EV haters who will enjoy an EV the most if they had one for a month or so, at least if with decent home charging (anything above 6KW will be within reason, IMO for home charging).

I know you didn't ask me, but I will tell you anyway.

For my Model 3 MPGe:

• EPA Ratings: The 2025 Tesla Model 3 Long Range achieves 137 MPGe combined, while the Performance model achieves 109 MPGe combined.
• Real-World Averages: Most owners report real-world efficiencies between 120 and 140 MPGe, depending on driving conditions and charging methods.

For my Chevy Bolt:

The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV is rated at 131 MPGe in the city, 109 MPGe on the highway, and 120 MPGe combined.

Quoting overseas sales being up has nothing to do with the EV being over in the US. Of course overseas sales are up. Their gasoline is 50% higher and their countries are smaller than our states. They don't have vast empty spaces like the US. A higher % live in cities vs rural. I'm beginning to worry about you Don. Are you having a hard time remembering facts?

50% higher gasoline prices is exactly why EV sales are up in Europe and not here.

VW is a declining brand with as you pointed out with their overall sales. So a 46% increase on a lower quantity is less than on a higher quantity. This is what is called statistics manipulation.

And I am not EV phobic. Apparently you have forgotten I have pointed these facts out so many times. I live in a rural area with insufficient charging stations and EV range has not increased enough to compensate. Plus Tesla has such a poor JD Powers rating overall except compared to other EV brands. Which says something about all EV brands.

When the time comes I will buy an EV. That time has not come.

So the real question is when will you stop selling snake oil EVs.

That should not happen these days--especially with the newer Teslas that can charge with anything they can find.

Electric motorcycles have around half the range than EV cars and I enjoy riding them to the middle of nowhere of CA & NV. I go anywhere I want with my electrics.

What we need to do is stop wasting valuable farmland to put in solar arrays.

But the most important place, right at home is usually not one of them for ICE cars. Most people in the USA drive less than 40 miles per day.

What we need to do is stop wasting valuable farmland to put in solar arrays.

Also, they have been selling farmland for housing. If this keeps up, we could all starve to death instead of being polluted to death from all the ICE vehicles.
