Hi all! My name is Susan, and my husband and I have acquired a motorhome recently. We're going to have some questions for you good folks.

We're handy, but this is an older model (87 Eldorado Spitfire)...low mileage, but still a few issues. We're planning on moving into it soon, checking out the bugs while planning the upgrade of our cabin & property here in Alaska.

All tips and tricks are welcome!

Safe Travels!

Welcome aboard and you got to post some pictures.
RV'ERS love pictures....
I want to see your 87 Eldorado Spitfire.
I don't think I have ever one..

Wow, that's weird. I had never heard of an Eldorado Spitfire until yesterday, when I saw one on RVTrader.com. And today there's someone joining the forum with one. Definitely unique looking...!

Hi Susan and welcome to you and your husband to the forum.  You'll get plenty of help here with your questions, so ask away.

Is your motorhome an Eldorado Starfire?  I remember seeing one of those back in the 80's at my local Ford dealer.  They were built by Ford and were very modern looking motorhomes at the time.  If I remember correctly, they had a fiberglass exterior and a long front end with a square grill that looked like a Lincoln grill, and in fact may have been from a Lincoln.  The one I saw belonged to the owner of the Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealership and I never saw another one like it, but it was sure impressive to me back then.  At the time, I had a 1983 Allegro and that Starfire sure looked different from my Allegro.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the motorhome and have many good times in it.

Dan

Thanks, everyone for the welcome. And yes, very unique...only 280 made? We've been digging it from a four foot snowfield (Hate the surprise spring snowstorms!). Then I'll take some pictures.  There are some wiring issues we'll be working on, John feels confidant and the previous owner has found a service manual, yay!

See you all soon,

This is indeed an interesting topic, as we have one here in the park we are at in Pahrump, NV. None of the four parties we are here with had ever seen one before. The hood was open one day as I walked buy, and I was surprised to see that the generator and batteries were under the long snoot. I hope to catch a visit with the owner some day.

I did a little research on these and found that Eldorado Motor Coach (EMC Corporation) built the Starfire on a Ford E350 chassis.  There were only 2 models built from 1986 to 1988, a 27 foot and a 31 foot with a tag axle.  The long front end did house the generator on one side and house batteries on the other with the radiator set way back behind them.  The grill and the headlights were indeed from a Lincoln Mark VII.  The motorhome had air suspension and evidently rode very well on the highway, much like a car.

EMC had financial difficulties and went into bankruptcy in 1989, selling it's assets to a newly formed company called Honorbuilt Industries, Inc. who built Class A and C Motorhomes and Class B vans.  Honorbuilt sold to SMC Corporation in 1996.  SMC built Safari and Beaver Coaches and was eventually taken over by Monaco Coach.  The Eldorado Coach name was dropped by SMC after it closed it's Kansas Plant and turned it into a service center and moved it's production plant to Oregon.
