Members are helping an RVer with a Sprinter 3500 seeking a low-profile replacement for a Dometic Mini Heki skylight with a 400mm square cutout, which is less common in the US compared to standard 14" or 16" sizes. The original poster wants to avoid cutting metal and prefers a solution that fits under a solar panel. Suggestions include searching European suppliers, as 400mm x 400mm is a common size there, and checking US vendors like Icondirect, RV Parts Country, and Skylight Depot. One...

Sprinter 3500, skylight is in a 400mm square cutout (not the 14" or 18" square most other systems use). The plastic is failing and needs replacement.

Ideally, teh replacement would be very low profile so I can put it under a solar panel.

Any advice is appreciated.

Take it to a dealer and have them do the work. Or better yet, maybe a mobile repair guy. They probably would be much cheaper than a dealer and probably do a better job than a 20 year old kid just out of diapers

Icondirect, rvpartscountry, skylight depot were some that came up in search. 400mm is about 15.75in and 18in square is a standard size. I replaced mine over shower about 4 years ago and is going strong. THINK got mine from icon been awhile.

I plan to do the work myself, I just need to find the part.

My biggest issue is: I'd really like to avoid cutting metal, so the fact that Dometic is the only mfg working with a 400mm cutout is really making this tougher than it should be.

I would say that 1% of 20 year olds don’t know everything and the rest are working at dealerships. 😂😅

400mm x 400mm is a common size in Europe, but may be harder to find in the USA. Google that size and see what you can find.

The US RV standard typical roof skylight opening is about 16"x16", so that may be a substitute. 400mm is just a hair smaller at 15-3/4". A 16x16 dome neatly covers a 14x14 vent-a/c opening, so that may make it a bit more common than some other sizes.

Gary,I always thought the US RV standard was 14 1/4” X 14 1/4”

My bad. As you say, the standard opening used for a/c units and vents is indeed 14x14. The OP is talking about a dome skylight rather than those other openings, but my use of the word "standard" was misleading. And there really isn't much "standard" about skylight sizes either. I'll add a correction.

A couple years ago I replaced my failing shower skylight. Going by winnebago part number it was a non standard size and obsolete. It's not like any of this is precision or you'll use the same screw holes again. I just got the next size up standard replacement, used the right goop with stainless screws and check the box.
