Back n the 2000s, Fleetwood made a model called the Scorpion. It is was
basically a pop top camper (without wheels or hitch assembly, Just the box) that was mounted sideways on a flatbed trailer of varying lengths depending on which model you had. The camper was at the front of the trailer and the rear of the trailer was open just like any other cargo trailer. Basically a poor mans toy hauler. My nephew is looking at buying a well used unit from a private seller, and asked me if I had any thoughts on it. I told him I would ask around and see if anyone on this forum ever had one or knew anything about them. He just wants to know if it works out well in actual camping situations before he takes the plunge.. Thanks I advance for any thoughts.

They seem to be pretty rare as I only found one in RV Trader listings. I can only remember having seen one or two but we did own a popup for almost 10 years when our boys were growing up and it worked out very well for us. I would not want one today, but younger folks tend to be more flexible. The thing that I'd caution him about is to see if it has water and waste tanks, a water heater, toilet, and shower.

I had a pop top for several years too... It worked out well until the setup got harder as we aged (manual crank up). Unit has a grey tank, Twenty gallon water tank, but no black tank. Has a chemical toilet. No shower or water heater, but neither did mine. Don't think they are planning on any boondocking, so I don't think that's an issue. My main concern for him is that with the camper on the front of the trailer, that has to be some serious hitch weight. I told him to get it weighed before buying it to see if his truck can handle that hitch weight.
