We have removed the carpet on our slide, and I am in the process of replacing the couch with something built.  The floor of the slide is even with the metal edge piece.  If we put any type of floating floor on the slide, how do we treat that edge?  There is a little bit of carpet, too, under the slide, that is rather grody, and I would like to remove it, but how?  and will I have to replace the vinyl on the main floor?

thanks!

(this picture shows top to bottom: edge of couch, wood subfloor with most of the silver mylar ripped off, the dark brown metal edge, 2" of dirty beige carpet, beige vinyl, which continues throughout, and the leg base for the table)

Thanks, Ernie - I have uploaded photos to our smugmug account online:  http://philhyde.smugmug.com/Family/RV/HarveyTwo-boring-pictures/27342683_qnfGgS#!i=2393222986&k=pdFwRDR

I can put them in a message, too, if preferred.

Sorry- been working on a big project. The black piece of plastic as you know, by now, keeps the slide floor flat. Adding any tile on that and you run the risk of that material cracking. I would use some luxury vinyl planks and you would need a vinyl reducer that looks like this:_> This is a difficult installation with vinyl planks- just for the transition strip. The easiest would be to cut some carpet and get it serged on the edge.
Another thought: You can add a piece of plywood and have it come out over the bottom flooring- maybe not as far as the black plastic. Then you can get a vinyl stair nose trim and while you will not have the flat floor- it will still be functional.
Take up that black plastic and you will see where the main floor carpet is attached.

Thanks, Ernie.  I wish we lived near you because I have seen great work of yours, and I would probably be willing to just turn over the project to you!  (not sure the cost)

I am in an indecisive stage right now.  There are so many colors of vinyl plank floorings available - I don't know where to start!  The transition strip of carpet is so ugly, but I think in order to replace it, I would need to replace all the floor in the main room, so that will have to wait.  I'm not sure I want to add the thickness of plywood on top of the black strip (I thought it was metal, but whatever it is, seeing it doesn't bother me).
