I?m on the air now.  It was a bit of compromise, expense considerations and multiple uses.  I decided to get a handheld Yaesu FT-70DR as a beginner radio.  Now, I can take a radio with me and DW wherever we wander either motorized or on foot.  I installed a ground plane on the roof, placed a mag mount antenna on it and threaded the coax into the coach via a window slot.  This will work on the road or parked and I can disconnect the radio, put the rubber duck antenna on it and head off down the trail.  So far, it?s working well ... I?ve hit the local repeaters and talked to a local Ham.  It?s all good ... so far.  ;)
