Hi All,
I have a 2024 Ford with an 2kw onboard generator or convertor with a GFCI protector. I can power anything without an issue, until I plug in the power to my Alliance Avenue. It trips immediately, whether all breakers inside the RV are open or closed. Yes, I have two GFI circuits in the trailer panel. That said, I can plug directly into my garage GFCI and it works just fine. It is a Ford issue of a bad design.

So, to cheat its system, I added an adapter that is for old 2 prong outlets you plug a normal hot/neu/gnd male plug into. You all know bad item I am talking about, ha ha. It did not trip the Ford GFCI, but my safety device Hughes Watchdog said no no, bad man. So, I got to thinking if I were to have a portable ground rod that I can drive into the ground a couple feet or 1 and connect it to the ground portion of that 2 prong adapter, the Watchdog may see a ground? Any electricians out there have any thoughts? I am just trying to use the Ford 2kw power I paid money for with my dry camping trailer.

Thanks!

A ground rod will not be a solution to your problem in any way.

The problem you describe implies there's a neutral-ground connection in your trailer, intentional or unintentional. My first stab at it would be to use a circuit tester to affirm correct trailer wiring. The trailer should not have neutral and ground bonded together.

Hi Mark,
I tested the ground bar and the neutral bar in the panel. Open. I also verified the trailer GFCI circuits were correctly wired. so, they are not bonded. The only possibility if that the adapter from trailer 4 connections to the 15 amp male I am plugging into bonds the two together.

With the camper power cord attached to the camper, verify that the neutral and ground are still open on the cord cap end that plugs into the truck. If it is, it looks to be a Ford warranty problem. Is this an electric truck? Do you have a generator or converter?

Good luck. Let us know what you find
