The belt tensioner actually made a small hole in the motor plate because who ever owned it before us had the wrong size belt , they forced a 108 inch belt when it suppose to have a 110 belt. This caused extra pressure on the tenioner and it failed . The hole has been patched and belt and tensioner replaced and engine runs fine but we have no oil pressure. Its has been sitting for 6 months . We have a 1999 Rexhall 30 foot motorhome v10 Ford Trition motor

Here is what we have tried so far
New oil sensor
Priming by putting oil in oil filter
Priming by overfilling oil to double

What else can we try ?

We believe air got into the system via the hole the tenioner made. Not sure thou.

As long as you have oil at the pump, you WILL have oil pressure going somewhere. It's a positive displacement pump and air will not bother it. You should be able to get oil pressure at other places on the engine other than the gauge to determine if the pump is operating.>>>Dan

Thats the thing it has been sitting for a very long time and may not have any oil left in the pump .

How do we need to see if the pump is still working ? What do we need to do ? Thanks for your help !

I agree the oil pump's intake is in the oil pan. The hole should not be anywhere near it. If

FIrst. Remove oil pressure sender and replace with oil pressure gauge (mechnics type) and start engine. See if you now have pressure on the mechanical gauge. IF SO you most likely have a wiring issue (Cut wire).

One of the reasons I am NOT a ford fan.... They get so they are low on oil pressure after a while. So do others but not nearly as fast.

I will disagree with UT on one point.. He said as long as you have oil at the pump..  Well THe pump can fail as well. VERY RARE but it can happen.

How you tell if the pump is working method 1  (Described above replace pressure sender with a pressure gauge mechanical type)

Metod 2: Engine will size up fairly swiftly and require replacement I do not recommend this method. (intended only as humor).

Will try the gauge thing tomorrow . I can get one at Autozone right ?

If it comes down to it and the oil pump needs to be replaced can i access it through the oil pan ? My crossmember is bolted not welded so it can be easily removed .

Why not simply remove the oil pressure sender and and crank the engine to see what comes out, if anything?

If it squirts oil chances are the oil pump is not the problem.  If nothing comes out replace the pump.  There are hundreds of how to videos on YouTube.

Just to add the old oil filter had no oil in it like the oil never got circulated to it. There is no engine noise and motor sounds great just no oil pressure according to the light.

What brand of oil filter are you using?  I suggest it it’s anything other than a Motorcraft (Ford) filter replace it with one before you do anything else.  Could be a bad bypass valve in the filter.

I’ll ask my Nephew the master Ford mechanic.

10 minutes later.........

He said try the mechanical gauge.  If it really had no oil pressure it would be clacking like crazy though.

Just curious does the oil pump run off the serp. belt or the crank shaft ?  I have heard conflicting information so far. 1999 Ford Triton V10 6.8 L. Wondering if the belt incident did damage to the oil pump ?

Thanks for your help its much appreciated

Replacing the pump is a big job.  The front of the engine has to come off as well as dropping the pan.  Hoping the gauge shows you got pressure.  According to my nephew it could also be a bad wire or the instrument cluster itself.

If you watch one of the how to videos you?ll probably get the answer about the pump.

It is most likely that the wire from the sender got damaged while working on the belt.  Check it out - first.

We did one last test before we went to get a gauge . We took off the oil sensor and started the motor and oil squirted out which means there is oil pressure. So maybe wiring or bad sensor ?  Here is a pic of the lights and gauges .....oil light and temperature light, but engine gauge says the engine is ok. just ignore brake lights we are parked with the jacks down and the string for the gears is incorrect to we are not in reverse ahahaha

The lights come on immediate so we know engine is not over heating . Last time it was started was yesterday so plenty of cool down time

Okay, so the temperature gauge says temperature is normal, but the warning light is on... yeah?

Do you have an OBDII scan tool you can use to get the engine temperature directly from the ECM?

Have you gotten an oil pressure reading using a mechanical gauge yet?

Unfortunately had to special order one none of the car parts places had one ...waiting on it to arrive in the mail.

Be aware that the Ford dash oil pressure gauge is a fake gauge, it does nothing except display normal or low, any up or down needle drift from the normal position is due to voltage variation to the instrument panel, not a real gauge reading.

That light is for any oil pressure/heat related issue.
