We are on track to convert the forum to new software. It has been several years since we've had a update, and it's finally time.

To do this, we'll need to close the forum. This is scheduled for March 24-27 beginning very early in the morning (subject to change if there are complications). The forum will be back online Thursday the 27th (exact time unknown). If we can get the forum back online more quickly, we will.

There will be some changes upon returning to open:
RV LIFE Single Sign-on:
Your account will be integrated into the RV LIFE network login system so you can log in to any other RV LIFE sites you may already use (Campground Reviews, Trip Wizard, iRV2, etc).

Email/Password Login: if you were using a display name as you logged in, you will now need to use the email address associated with your forum account and your existing password. This is a more secure login.

The Forum software is being updated to a newer version of our software platform (XenForo). All the usual controls will be available, but buttons and functions will be moved around a bit. Modern software means a much better browsing experience! Look for a new "How To" thread in the forum admin section after we reopen to help with your questions.

Other changes:
  • The forum colors and header image will be updated
  • Image storage will be increased.
  • PM inbox storage will be increased
  • Responsive for mobile use: There is no mobile app needed. XenForo has a mobile view that is entirely responsive to device size. Use a browser to open the site and you'll have a good view. You can even set an app-like icon on your phone (really a bookmark)
New functions:
  • Image handling will be improved.
  • There will be an updated and improved table editor and new tools for great-looking replies to posts.
  • New OP badge to denote the Original Poster (thread starter) of a thread - handy for long topics.

RV LIFE Pro Members = No Ads

Ad free viewing for forum members who have RV LIFE Pro subscriptions. (Trip Wizard and the RV LIFE Mobile GPS) they will also have a cool new badge displaying on their profiles

Be patient after the site opens, it takes a little time to get settings dialled in, but we will bring the site back online as soon as possible (even while adjustments are still being made).

If you have any trouble logging in, please use the contact link at the bottom of the site to reach the help desk. We can help with account issues, and password resets if needed.

We'll all have a learning curve when the site updates, but we believe that the faster site response and more robust features will be a great improvement.

PS......to anyone reading this, it's an inside joke between Janet and I. The new software is awesome!

When the previous forum software was updated to the current XenForo system it was a pretty dramatic improvement.

Will look forward to seeing the updates even though it will difficult to go without my daily forum "fix" for as long as it apparently will take to do the update. ;)

And to think that way back when Compuserve forums were considered to be state-of-the-art...

The update will be less dramatic. The big difference here will be the integrated RV LIFE login which will make it a lot simpler to navigate around between your favorite sites.

If this doesn't work out can we get a refund? ;)

Yahoo mail just did an 'upgrade'. An interface clearly designed by people that don't do actual email seriously. And they added an AI 'summary' at the top to help you understand what you're reading. Reminds me of the days of going to websites and getting flooded with popup ads covering everything. I thought maybe having the paid version might obviate me from some of this. Nope.

Folks, be sure to take note of the following in Janet's message:

Email/Password Login: if you were using a display name as you logged in, you will now need to use the email address associated with your forum account and your existing password. This is a more secure login.

If you're unsure of the email address associated with your account, click your name in the menu bar at the top of the page to view your account details.

How utterly confused will we be when this new version is up and running?

Tom:

RV Net was another forum that I used for years. They redid their format and it was very difficult to use from then on. A lot of the people came on here and also went to IRV2.

Why are we fixing what is not broken here?

IMAO, this forum software works great as it is.

Don, I think you're misunderstanding what's happening. RV Life owns a number of forums; Most were using different &/or poor functioning software, and there was little synergy between them. Our forum already made the move to the 'new' software, and we've been using it for some time. Meanwhile, other forums have been/will be migrating.

The biggest change for us with the latest upgrade is the fact that (eventually) all forums will be using the same software, we'll be able to move seamlessly between them, plus there will be some improvements.

Our basic 'format' will be unchanged; See my reply to Don.
