Crazy crazy stuff out there. When my dad died, my brother — same first and last name — and my mom and I went to the bank to empty the lock box. My brother duly signed his own name on their form. The signatures didn’t even remotely match, but the sweet clueless employee showed us in, took the matching key, and opened the lock box. We didn’t say a word. So much for security.

Well, she got the paper notarized again on Wednesday the 23rd ... for the 4th time ... and sent it in once more (on Thursday via e-mail). No rejection email has arrived yet. I've been hugging that stuffed rabbit! It's now Friday, July 25.

Since when did a signature require to be legible here in CA or elsewhere?

But that excuse is often used at banks, "signature illegible" but never for the signature, AFAIK. It's just a form letter often used at banks for amounts not matching, date not possible, (Feb 31, etc.) and countless other reasons, but AFAIK, never for the signature, which can be anything they have been using.

A notary should have a stamp and number. That is all that needs to be readable.

FWIW, Tom once worked for BOA and was also a Notary Public.

This is the site the State of California web site has posted.

My wife finally called the Orange County Recorder's Office and had a very pleasant conversation. She was sent an Email with a totally different link to the actual county office. She downloaded the form (totally different form). She had it notarized earlier today (July 29), had a stamped envelope ready and a check for $32 inserted. Got the signature, sealed up the envelope and drove to the closest Post Office drop box.

Now we wait again.

That web site is nothing but a shyster organization. We really think they keep rejecting everything sent to them so time expires or you simply give up, and they keep the $150.

My wife found them on Facebook and bashed the "h***" out of them.

By the way, the person at the Recorder's Office said THEY are having problems with that company also. She asked, "So why do you have them posted on the web site?" She responded, it wasn't their choice to put them on the web site. (go figure California!)

Now we wait again .... snail mail you know.

I know you’re not a fan of CA, but I don’t think this is necessarily a CA problem… Some how you got the wrong website, and wound up on a commercial site, that is just running you around and trying to get your $150… It could happen in any state.. We in CA have our problems, but we’re not the root of all evil. …..

Pay is generally higher in CA for most, if not all jobs. Best to work in CA and then move out when retiring. But I have always lived in CA at least part time, as I do now.

They say when you once move out of CA, and sell your home, you're unlikely to be able to afford to move back and buy another.

I prevent that from always having a house in CA that I refuse to sell at any price.

Isn't there some lost opportunity with that? Tied up equity, taxes, insurance, utilities, repairs all to hold a stake in CA? I doubt it's appreciating at a rate greater than it's costing you.

It has appreciated and by quite a bit, (at a lot more than my cost) but I do not care if it is only worth two cents. I didn't buy it to resell.

This house in Reno has also done well, but I never took the time to adjust for inflation because, likewise, I just do not care.

Not everything is about money. I expect to die with these same two same houses. I have no need to be concerned with the cost or value of either.

99.0 miles between them, if going the fastest way (I-80), driveway to driveway. A nice ride on a motorcycle and I can go several different ways in the mountains to get to each. Such as Lake Tahoe, Mt. Rose, Willow Valley, Kingsbury and others, which are longer but more scenic.

Going up Kingbury has a nice view of the valley below:

The Auburn area is also very scenic. So is the ride back and forth.

I have ridden over this bridge countless times (Auburn-Foresthill Bridge). Very nice riding area, but this place is not in route, but just a few miles from my Auburn house:

California bashing is getting kind of old. Get over it. If you don’t want to live in or visit California, don’t. You have free will. I don’t care for Florida (although I was born and raised there), Texas, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and a host of other states. We don’t live in those states or visit them and I don’t sit around grousing about them either.
