One of the concerns if you go to 24 volt is finding "Stuff"
Yeah, they did it all wrong from the beginning (nobody asked me back then! ;) ) so now we're all stuck with 12-volt stuff, for the most part. It could have gone the other way, making 24V (or even 48V) stuff not only cheaper, but better than the 12V stuff we now use.

But IMO, 12V stuff works well enough anyway.

Hey, at least at some point in '55 or so they got smart and upgraded from 6v.
