Hi Everyone, I joined the RV Forum quite a few years ago wanting to be a full timer. Back in 2018 I chose South Dakota for my domicile and that's been great so far. My motorhome is registered there, of course, and my vehicle insurance has been there with State Farm since then. Now State Farm tells me they will no longer renew my RV insurance because my only address there is my mail service and not a physical residence. I'd love to hear vehicle insurance suggestions from other full timers.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm surprised you haven't had a response to this. If none forthcoming I'll move to another location.

Most insurance companies require a physical address where an RV or any other vehicle is based, also called a "garage address." This is because they based their premiums based on where the vehicle is primarily used as well as Homeland Security regulations implemented since 9/11. It's one reason I purchased a lot in a co-op RV park when I retired. It came in handy as a place to retreat during the extended Covid lockdown but otherwise I'm only there briefly each year. It's my legal address for domicile purposes like banking, voting, taxes, vehicle registration, insurance, etc.

Escapees have traditionally been able to offer domicile in Livingston, Tx to their mail service customers after winning a voting rights case on their behalf. The win was based on Escapees only offering mail forwarding to their members and their headquarters and mail forwarding service being co-located with a large campground available to any Escapees member. But this may be changing based on the recent sale of the club minus the park system and mail service.

We have a SD domicile address and have State Farm fulltime insurance on the truck and camper.

Akstmx: What address did you use for the vehicle title & registration?

You may have to establish a legal address in SD. One way to do that is to establish and LLC and the companies that provide legal services for that can provide an legal address that passes muster.

We domicile in SD also out of Box Elder. We have National General Ins and never a problem. Hope this helps
