Roadtrek Zion:
While winterizing after draining black then grey through the macerator I opened the 3" gate valve. The instructions said to have a container for a small amount of liquid, I got about 1.5 gallons and it wasn't all liquid.

In order to fully drain the black waste I will need to use a 3" hose, but there's no external storage.
Any suggestions?

sorry, I don't understand your question.

I have no experience with a macerator on an RV, but I'd imagine just by the nature of the fittings and connection that it would never completely drain dry.

I really don't think that it does even with the traditional large hose....and it's not like it's a rapid rush of water whenever it gets down to even several gallons left...so solids will always remain....even after several fills and dumps with clear water.

but
why does that really matter?

I agree there will always be a small amount, but the tank is only 46litres, so having 6 litres left is over 10%. I would like to empty it completely, not just for winterizing, but to enable maximum capacity for when we plan a longer dry camp. To do that I either need a suitable container or the ability to store a black water 3" hose. We're  not keen on the hose being inside the living area and there's no real outside storage so I wondered how/whether other class B owners dealt with this? (roof covered in solar panels)

As for hose storage, have you considered bumper mounted PVC pipe with caps on the ends?

Thanks Jim,

Does anyone know the shortest 3"hose with minimal fittings available - can you just take fittings off one end and cut hose shorter? I can usually park with the outlet within about 4ft of the dump point.

Our TT came with a short hose storage under the front. I ordered a longer one and attached it under the rear just aft of the sewer connection. I can now carry one short and one long hose.

Valterra Dominator. 5' model collapses to just over a foot long.
