So I bought this Class A Damon Daybreak Challenger 377 and when I touch the break without the ignition on I hear this whirring sound like a motor. I also hear it when I turn the key before ignition. Could this be a brake assist motor in the Ford engine?

That's exactly what it is. If you press the brake pedal with the ignition off and you don't hear it you have a problem.

Not the engine per se, but part of the Ford chassis brake system. It's an electric-powered pump-assist that functions when the engine is not running. That assures you still have power brakes if the engine stalls or before you get the engine started.

And check it occasionally. I discovered mine had died by not hearing it. Ordinarily you'd never hear it run in usual operations.
