First, I know nothing about RV Furnace.  This morning the rear one in my unit began to make a noise that sounds like if a fan got something into it.  It's like a tap-tap-tap.  What in the world can be making this noise?  It is blowing warm air but with the noise.  Because I have one in the front and a heat pump, I decided to shut it off until I know what's wrong.  Any ideas?

It looks like your going to have to open the heater and do a little looking around.

I've had two make funny noises like that and after inspection I found mud dauber nest in the fan or next to it. Very common if you don't have screens on the outside vents.

Need some calcification. Do you have 2 furnaces' and 2 heat pumps? FYI. A/C and heat pump are the same compressor. A heat pump unit has a reversing valve installed. Technically you have two A/C Heat Pump units on the roof. Furnace is gas and mounted on the floor. I'm assuming you are in a MH but your didn't state.

Typically something stuck in the furnace fan. Maybe a bug nest, a twig, or some critter hiding out. Once in awhile the fan itself disintegrates and pieces make that noise - this happens with the plastic fans that replaced the former metal ones.  Gonna have to look inside - you can probably view it from the outside access panel (Atwood furnaces usually have those).

Cavie, I have a ac/heat pump on the roof in the front area.  I also have two furnaces on in front and one all the way back. The back one is the one making the noise.

sound like a possible broken fan blade.

Well, this is weird.  I had turned it off until I would have an opportunity to look into it.  However, tonight I turned it on to hear the noise again, and it is not doing any noise.  Any ideas what's going on.

Sounds like a piece of debris sucked in there, and has moved it's position.  If it has gone, and seems to work fine, I'd probably let it be.  I once had a small piece of aluminum tape from some ductwork get in a fan, made a clicking sound, pretty easy to remove.

Don't worry...It will either never bother you again......OR....It will return on a quiet cold night and keep you awake ;D ;D

Or you will wake up one night and discover it is 25? in the house. Been there! Well maybe it was only 40 but...

I was able to get to the fan this afternoon, didn't find anything in it.  I rotated it manually and there was no noise.  So, I don't know if some insect got it, and its gone now.  Thanks for your help.

My Suburban furnace started making noise last night. A constant short-tapping sound that reminded a little of when as kids we'd put baseball cards on our bicycle spokes (if you're under 50, ignore that). Got the electric heaters out and wondered who I could get to come out to our full-time 5er if I couldn't fix it.
Opened the access panel and the noise was definitely coming from the blower/fan. I thought "How the heck do I get to THAT?" as it didn't look easy. So I did what I always do: I stared at it trying to figure out what to do next.....and VOILA! The noise stopped.
I'm crediting my Superpower Stare....but as Gizmo said, either I'll never hear it again, or it will start up at 3 a.m.
Thanks to all who posted as your comments encouraged me to open it up instead of calling a mobile RV tech....and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
