Gary let members know he would be offline for a few days while having surgery to improve blood flow in the arteries on his right side, with recovery time depending on how extensive the procedure became. Members responded with well wishes, hopes for a smooth recovery, and a few shared experiences with similar artery procedures, blood thinners, and cardiac rehab.

A later update from Gary reported that the three-hour surgery was 100% successful and that he was doing well, with hopes of...

I had that done on both legs. Recovery is not bad at all. You just have to take it easy for a week or so. They may also put you on blood thinners for a while.
If they recommend cardiac rehab, got for it. It will help get the circulation get back to almost normal.
The rehab is not intensive, but it does force you to use the parts of your body you have neglected.
Overall blood pressure and flow will get much better.
BTW, I actually miss the rehab. I had a great bunch of therapists and they monitored me the entire time.
Yup! My cardiologist told me to perform cardiac rehab as if my life depended on it, and it does. That was in 2005.

Mine was 3 times a week for 13 weeks. Amazing how much better it makes you feel.
I graduated at 110% of my goal. They are working on a program to allow past patients come back in once a week.
PS: it's amazing that all these chain owned gyms do not have the proper machines for cardiac rehab. They mostly focus on strength training.

Message to all from Gary ...

"Doing well. Haven't even opened my laptop yet but wanted to let you and the Forum know the 3 hour surgery was a 100% success and I'm hoping to be back home Monday or Tuesday."

This is so good to hear/read. Thanks Gary for letting us know.

Hi gang! I'm back, at home and on the Forum again! Surgery took longer than expected (3.5 hours) but recovery much less (68 hours). I'm on limited duty, but I don't lift things weighing over 10# anymore anyway(except for my cat). Have to back next Thursday the get the special vacuum bandage removed and then it's just slow & easy for awhile.

Glad to hear you are recovering well and faster than anticipated.
Given your technical knowledge you are much missed when absent.,

I wish you well. Surgery is a pain,, as far too many of us well know.

Indeed I am, in Palm Beach, FL. It's 94-95 every day and won't drop below 80 at night until some time in October. :(
Makes for some crappy sleeping weather or very high energy bills. Been in the upper 90's here in SoCal and forecast is for a few days of 100+ over the next week and a half. Can't wait for the cool down. A bit of rain would be nice as well. Wondering what the Super El Nino is going to bring.
