Gas Prices Across the Map: What RVers Are Paying Right Now

We just completed a 4,000+ mile trip to the Midwest and back. One of the things I found confusing was the number of pumps and octane ratings at some stations. IIRC, one station had 4 or 5 pumps. One for regular, one for E85, one no Ethanol and one or two for diesel. One time I had to go in the store and ask which one I should use for regular gas. Life is so easy in California. It's 87, 89 or 91. No 85 octane, no 88 octane and only one pump to choose from. So comparing gas prices is not exactly apples to apples. The one thing that is true, you can go a lot further with $100 of gas in every other state.

And not only that, here in CA a green pump handle means diesel. In some eastern states, it means the 87 octane gasoline.

It is around $6.50 here in Auburn, CA for 87 octane.

Yellow designated diesel fuel here until bio hit the market, then someone got the bright idea to change to green. for a few years stations use both. That caused a lot of confusion for those years. There was a jump in autos filling with diesel and diesels filling with gasoline.

Did some errands yesterday here in notthern NJ. Saw $3,99 & $3,95. The highest we got was around $4.39 for about a week. Still better than $5.00 we had in 2022.

Important to note that since that 2022 record, NJ hit us with 3 new gas taxes totalling $0.078 per gallon that historical comparisons seem to forget.

I took a motorcycle ride south yesterday. Carson City and Minden/Garnerville/Genoa (all in NV) is quite a bit cheaper than Reno. It's all below 5 bucks, with an average of around $4.70 per gallon of 87. Around a buck more for diesel everywhere out here.

You're not going to find anything below five bucks here in Reno.

Diesel is $3.86 at Petro with the Greenlane card. Not using fleet cards, the cheapest around Weatherford, Texas is $3.98 at Murphy (before the 10 cents discount with WalMart+). Regular gas is now down to $3.22 (or $3.12 with WalMart+).

The Indiana governor suspended the state gas tax for 60 days. Loves travel centers are selling regular for $2.999/G.

The deal with Individual Pumps and the Common Head pump is End delivery of fuel. There is a Filter/strainer, holds around 1/2 gal of Last Requested fuel so if need NON Ethanol are better off in a three Pump Head station than a Single pump head three choices. My Harley CAN use E5-E10 gas, anything above that is HORRIBLE, economy drops from 48-52mpg to less than 38 in most cases.
