Generator Exhaust Options

The potatoes aren't for throwing.  I may make a large flexible hose for your Genturi that I can put on your 90 degree elbow and attach to your open window.  That should solve the problem nicely :D

Hi Tom,

Hope your trip up North is enjoyable. We have been sitting quietly at home with some medical issues but everything looks ok now.
We will be leaving September 12 North for the Monaco come home rally. We have 19 coaches of our Monaco Norcal group staying at the Phoenix campground in Salem and from there carraving all together to the Fairgrounds (1.5 miles) for the come home rally. We all will have electric.
It's time you join our Monaco Norcal group we need somebody with a satelite internet connection and you would be a good candidate.
Maybe we can get together in October.
Say hello to Chris.

Chris

Sorry to hear about the medical problems, but glad to hear things are now OK.

It's been a while since I looked, but I wasn't able to find the Norcal group. I received a Golden Gate group newsletter, but this didn't sound like the right group. If you can let me know the URL of their web site or Yahoo group, I won't mind joining.

Looks like we'll be at Harrisburg for another week, but they appear to be doing a good job of taking care of our issues.

Picked up a Gen-Turi today at camping world, they honored their internet price, Read the instructions.  Looks like it is a bit nicer than I expected.  Will install a bit later due to.. Well, I got a 16 hour shift tonight

Edited: Got around to installing it,, only a few parts short,  The "eye loops" that go on the MH, the screws, and the lock pin.

Picked up about 5 dollars worth of hardware (Including some for another project) and it works  Will get proper replacement loops later or just paint up the hooks I installed.

I, too, am interested in something to re-direct the exhaust of my generator.  I have been told on a couple of camping trips that the RV next to us was complaining about our exhaust.  I looked at the Gen-turi and it seems every expensive for something that can me made from a few feet of PVC.  Is the exhaust from the generator too hot for all types of PVC?  If not, smaller PVC can be suspended inside larger PVC to reduce the chances of someone getting burned and all this can be done for probably less than $50.  What am I missing?

BTW,  Thanks for the replies on towing vs. 4 wheels down.  They were all very helpful.

I do agree you could likely cobble something together for less. However in looking at the Gen-turi I can tell you this

This is a sectional chunk of special plastic it is designed to take somewhat higher tempertures however the outside still should not get hot enough to cause serious pain if touched  It will get very warm though, possibly hot enough to soften some PVCs.

Second it's designed to break down into a much shorter package...I've stored 10 foot lengths of 4" plastic in my MH and trust me, it is not something you want to do for long (I just had it in there for one day) as it more or less takes up the entire isle when on the road and I had to crawl over it if I needed to... Well, go where you have to go when you have to go h

The instructions say to test run it 8 hours at full load... I'm not sure my rig can draw full load from the generator (Full load is over 50 amps at 110 volts my rig has yet to trip a 30 amp breaker) and check for softening of the plastic

But the major difference between the Gen-Tuii plastic and what I see in plumbing shops is the joint detail, Much better joints

John,

If you're planning on installing permanent hooks on the side of the coach you might want to consider large suction cups. I use them and they work pretty well. They don't require any holes which was my concern. Mine came with bungi cords with the small ball at the end. I just hook them to the Genturi cords. I did discover that one must put the suction cup where there is no ridge from graphics otherwise they won't stay. The suction cups are around 2 1/2 to 3" in diameter.

Billy,

Some plastics will melt from the heat. It's mostly contained in the lower section. Even Genturi had a problem initially but replaced all the units that used the wrong plastic.

Considered those, decided against them.. I've had considerable problems with suction cups in the past.. Went with hooks

Our FMCA chapter has what I would call an annual laugh when someone shows up with their homemade version of a Genturi.

After somewhere between 1-4 hours their shiny new stack develops a severe case of "senioritis" and assumes some interesting and suggestive poses.

The next time they show up with a Genturi!  ;D ;D ;D
