Just for curiosity, when was the last time you checked the oil of the generator?

Your starter might have seized up . Climb under and rap it with a hammer. On mine it's not to herd to reach on my mh.
I replaced mine about $250 if I remember.
There is a solenoid behind the start switchplate but be carefull the circuit board is attached to the back of it. But you should here the solenoid click (at least) when you push start button.

Reading all the posts I agree to go back to the batteries. It seems that your genny worked ok before you had the batts serviced. Me, I'd get two new batteries and make sure the installer checks all the connections, including the corroded-looking connection on your genny.

When I hold down the button inside and kn the generator nothing happens. I have used it in the past with no issues. I know there’s plenty of gas.

You say "plenty of gas" most generators I've seen will not start or run if you are below a quarter tank of fuel.
