I hope I'm posting in the right spot I have an Onan 5500 I believe it's a commercial unit it keeps growing the service code however if I constantly squeeze very slightly on the purge bubble in the fuel line while the generator is running it will stay running until your hand goes numb with no issue has anybody ever taken to fuel pump off the generator and put their own fuel pump on and has this ever worked any info would be greatly appreciated

Onan fuel pumps are, apparently, a lower pressure than ordinary electric fuel pumps. Every time I read of someone attempting to install a non Onan fuel pump, even if a copy of the Onan unit, they have issues related to too high of a fuel pressure. That is what I have read, no personal experience, as the two Onan units I have/do own, were/is LP fueled.

Is this in a motorhome? Many times the end fix is new fuel hose from the tank to the generator. The hoses get old and cracked and the pump sucks air rather than fuel.
