I have a 2024 GMC Sierra 3500. When I took my tailgate off to put my truck camper on of course it removed my rear view camera which is built into the tailgate. I expected this. What I discovered was that I now have no "blind spot" warning lights in my side
mirrors anymore. Is this normal. Are the blind spot warning lights connected to the tailgate camera? Do I have to reinstall the tailgate
to restore the "blind spot" warning lights?

AI says:

"The blind spot camera on the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 HD is an Auxiliary Trailer Camera (if equipped with the RPO TRO option or purchased as an accessory), which is typically mounted in the rear bumper or near the trailer hitch area.

  • Primary Location: The camera housing is integrated into the rear bumper or hitch assembly to provide a view of the trailer and sides.
  • Sensor Location: The Blind Spot Monitoring radar sensors, which trigger the visual alerts, are located in the rear corners of the vehicle and the rear bumper.
  • Display: When activated (usually by turn signals or detecting a vehicle), the camera feed appears on the center infotainment display, not in the mirrors.
Note that for 2024 models, the specific camera part number and compatibility (e.g., for 5th wheel vs. bumper pull) can vary, and some users have reported issues with the camera not functioning correctly with 5th wheel setups unless specifically configured. "

Copilot says, For 2024–2025 models, GM has addressed some tailgate removal issues, but if you’ve removed the tailgate or bed, you may need a rear camera relocation kit to restore the view.
