Well, I have been informed that I will receive my official furlough letter next week by my supervisor and it looks like we will get every Friday off now. Well, this is a good thing because I get more three and four day weekends to travel but I will have to watch my funds closer and take shorter trips since I will lose 8 hours worth of pay every week.

We used to get every other Friday off but had to make up the hours plus a few to get the "perk".  The Fed schools around here are saying 4 day weeks but state law says they have to have 180 days of school so it will be interesting to see who prevails...

My current schedule gives me every other Friday off, working 9 hr days M-Th and 8 hrs on the Friday I do work. If furloughed we will work 8 hrs four days a week.  Of course I prefer the former rather than the 20% pay cut.

Campfire RV- I like your positive spin on having to endear a forced furlough. You can usually save money by going to State Parks instead of private campgrounds. Have a great summer.

We used to love those furloughs when Mike worked NPS. Nice one was 6 weeks and he could collect unemployment part of the time.

These were "normal" events when I worked in the high tech business. We'd get used to the shorter work weeks and almost didn't want to go back to regular weeks  ;D

Same here.  Jack will be receiving his furlough letter next week and will have every Friday off.  Love a three-day weekend every week...but losing 8 hours of pay each week...not so much.  A mixed blessing, I guess.

We get every other Friday off already while working 9 hours every Mon-Thu then 8 hours on the working Fridays. This is a real benefit for working at the base I work because it allows us an extra day to get away to escape the heat in the summer.

Same here,
I have been working 4- 10's with fridays off. Looks like we are going to 4-8 hr days with either monday or friday off. I know the cut in pay is bad, won't hurt too bad but still not the point...

I take it you retired and now have a GS or WG job?  This isn't affecting Active duty that I am aware of?

My wife works for the state of Calif. and so they've been getting furloughs since the Govenator was in office.  We just cut back on eating out as much....other little things like that....it really adds up more than we realized.

The up side is because she's able to use these furlough days for personal things, her vacation time is stacking up at a faster rate because she's not using near as much.

Was on the news last week.....now they're recommending that the state buy back some of the vacation time.  :p  If people sit on it for any length of time, then it becomes more valuable than when they earned it (pay raises, step raises, etc.).

I believe Chief is a reservist, who is also a GS civilian employee.  Or he may be an AGR or Guard tech.  Active duty cannot be and aren't being furoughed.

That makes sense--I knew he recently came off a deployment and was scratching my head....lol

Yes I am a Guard Tech WS10 Supervisor.

I know it is all confusing.. I wear the uniform everyday, have to be in the Guard to have my job but the money for my full time job comes from a different pot of money.

Glad I just go out of a 5 week Army school and have a little set back.

Well, look at the bright side of things, we get to stay home on all Fridays now just as the song says http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVvm5YgJSbo. I received this song in an email at work and found it quite fitting for the moment.

I just receive an email from my supervisor this morning that furlough letters will be handed out face to face by our supervisor this Friday in preparation for furloughs if they happen.

This is one of the few instances where us "nasty contractors" are sitting better than the govt. employee.....lol ;D
