Don,

That is just too awesome to imagine!!!! Not sure I'd want to be out there with the tons of tourists that would also want to be there!!

I always thought it was the south rim. ;D

Bob,

The South Rim and the West Rim are two different places.  The West Rim is not so well known.

Thanks for posting Don.

Last time we visited the west rim was by small plane out of Henderson. After flying over the lake and banking for some great photo ops of the canyon, we landed at the airport on the west rim. On arrival, we were picked up by Indians in one of those old Bluebird buses and treated to a tour in addition to a BBQ lunch.

I have mixed feelings on the new bridge. I would imagine it provides some really outstanding views. OTOH it's a man-made intrusion into a place of natural beauty.

It is a matter of scale.  The Hualipai bridge will be the equivalent of a barnacle on the backside of a blue whale -- there only if you look hard.  In that sense, the design of the bridge with its unadorned semi circular cantilever is appropriate.  After all, look at the slurb at Grand Canyon Village.

The place to see the Canyon is the place almost no one ever sees it -- down on the Tonto Rim from the Grandview to the Kaibab trails.  Silent, wild, and surrounded by the turrets and mesas of the Redwall.  The only signs of man are the sketchy 19th century ruins of the mines at Grandview Mesa.

Does anybody know of any websites that give any more "RV" detail on the West Rim. I have Googled without much success. Are there any campgrounds there? Are they open year around? With that glass walk opening in January, I assume so but....

I had planned to go to the south rim in February, depending on the weather. But this west rim and that walk sound interesting.

Has anyone been to the west rim of the Grand Canyon lately and seen the construction of the Skywalk. Any information at all?
