I posted this under "General Discussions" as optimizing storage is a common issue for RV'ers.

We recently acquired a Grand Design 27RL 5th wheel and are in the process of getting it ready for our 1st road trip with it. Like many of the Grand DEsign 5th wheels it has a cabinet behind the TV with an 18" width but only a 12" opening and a depth of 36". Lot of space there but not very usable. Given the narrow width and the 36" depth I can't see how to install drawer slides. Also would like to find a slide out for a narrow cabinet that is 10" wide by 13" deep, 14-1/4 high.

Looking for suggestions, I expect some others have already found solutions.

Thx to anyone taking the time to offer advice.

I am unwilling to compromise the structure to do that. we have made some progress getting stackable plastic open ended containers that will work well in the larger cabinets. Eventually I'll figure out an approach to the deep and narrow ones behind the TV and fireplace.

RV manufacturers tend to put a door on any dead space and call it storage with little consideration to how it can be used. If you have woodworking skills you might replace the front with a larger door, as I did on our motorhome when we were on the road. Be careful in removing the existing front as it might have some structural aspects. On ours, I made a frame of 1X2 strips and put inside before removing the front.

Kirk; thx for the suggestion. No workworking skills here but I have a friend who has traded his skills for mine on several occasions over the years. I'll have him take a look.
