Hello,
We live in Brisbane Australia. We have a 26 foot Winnebago Whitehaven and have enjoy touring Queensland in our C class for the last 5 years.
We have visited the USA on several occasions. One in 2016 when we travelled Route 66 from LA to Chicago in a Dodge Durango and stayed in Motels and again in 2017 where we travelled from LA to Chicago via Ca, NV, UT, ID WY,SD etc. again, staying in Motels. Eventually we want to travel the USA in an RV. We love the USA and the people and want to spend as much time there as possible.
Many thanks

Hope you can make it in an RV. I have met two Australian couples who travel in the US by RV extensively, both through RVForum activities.

Thank you all for your warm welcome.
Our plan is to travel to LA, purchase a MH and go from there.
We have a huge learning curve ahead of us as it appears there is lots we need to know.
I understand that in some states if the MH is 10 years old and older we need to register it as a once off but only in some states.
Thats a start anyway.
Cheers

For a variety of reasons (taxes, registration, model selection, price, etc.) Los Angeles, or California in general might not be the best choice of location to make your purchase.  As an alternative you might want to consider making your purchase about 250 miles east of there in either Arizona or possibly Nevada.  Though you would need to check out the specifics given your circumstances

Thanks Isaac for your advice.
We love Arizona!
My research now begins in ernest.
It may be wise to take this conversation to another thread.
There seems to be plenty of threads that address this subject.
Again many thanks.
Brian

Have a good look through the visitors to the USA section.
Lots of information on visas, Llc's, etc.
We are UK residents doing exactly what you intend and this is our second year. There is another couple from Scotland that have been doing it for nearer 5 years and have a vast depth of knowledge.
Regards

A few things to keep in mind about the US compared to Australia, first the continental US is about 20% larger, but has about 14 times the population of Australia and many, many more miles of paved highway, including over 47,000 miles of 4 lane+ , limited access Interstate highways.  Much of the US population is in the eastern states, or is along the coasts, with few major inland cities in the western half of the US, the exceptions here primarily  being Phoenix, AZ, and Denver, CO.  (I am not counting Dallas, TX,  Kansas City, etc as they are just about on the center line east / west of the US.).

There is also the winter weather that has been mentioned already where ice on the roads and snow is possible in at least parts of every state in the US for at least a few days every year, with the possible exception of Florida, where it only ever occurs in the northern most part of the state and then it is a very rare occurrence.  Where I live in south western Louisiana this is a once every 5+ year occurrence, though in the northern part of the state it happens perhaps once per year, others states like Arizona have drastic climatic differences from one part of the state to another, primarily due to elevation differences.  Phoenix vs Flagstaff is a great example, while under 150 miles apart, they have drastically different climates, with snow being common in the winters in Flagstaff averaging over 100 inches of snowfall per year, compared to Phoenix where the all time record snowfall ever recorded was just 1 inch, and typical weather even in January may see daytime highs in the 85F / 30C  range.

Ike,

I see you are in line to take over the throne someday.  You are in a small group I consider "Power Players" here on the RV Forums.  Your answers, typed words, educate fools like myself.

As for me, most of my stuff here is just entertainment for myself, my self therapy, I am here just BSN around.  I might have $0.02 here and there.  BBQ related mostly.

It is a Great Day to be alive!! Also a Great day to Throw another "Shrimp on the Barbie" in honor or all our Australian, and all our Friend across the Big Ponds.
