Hello, I'm a newcomer to the forum. Had a motorhome back in the early 2000's then went onto a caravan which I've had for 13 years. Due to the loss of my partner I'm now considering a LARGE motorhome that can take me 2 dogs and 3 cats onto further adventures. I was going to do Europe but never being faint hearted I'm now considering crossing the pond and spending 1 -2 years doing the states and possibly up into Canada. I have recently read RV topics from 2007 that gave a lot of details on buying motorhomes over in the states, registering a Montana LCC, shipping and customs/duty advice etc which I found really interesting and helpful. Next I intend to review posts on where RV owners have recommended touring routes which will help me plan a 1-2 year journey taking in the sights and "seasons". Please help me along the way and you never know we may meet up. Looking forward to conversations / replies. Regards, Malmepal.

Welcome.

Just to be clear.
Your NOT in the USA now but want to come here and buy a Motorhome to travel the States for a year or two, is that right?

Do you have a budget?  A large MH is different to different people.
Some think a Class C is huge others think a 42' Diesel Pusher is small.
IF your thinking of a DP then most common is to tow a vehicle behind it especially if your going to live in it for a year or 2 as
getting groceries in a MH is not always the easiest thing to do in some cases. Not to mention sight seeing.

Beware that some RV parks do not accept dogs or some have size limits and most that do accept them require a leash for all dogs.

As far a routes all I can say is in the Winter you need to be pretty far South, as Much of the USA is COLD right now.

Thanks RedandSilver. Correct I'm in the UK this year and looking at spending say 10 months gathering as much information and reviewing MH's with the intent of buying over in the States possibly February 2020. Did not realise so much restriction on dogs. As to size and type of MH etc I think approx. 36ft, couple of slide outs and room for a small motorbike, otherwise as you say a small car to tow.  :))

Also, keep in mind that you can spend no more than 6 months in the USA then you'll have to leave for a while. Don't know how long you'd have to leave for. Others will respond to that. Jackiemac will probably respond. She's from Scotland and comes here every year for 6 months.

Good point Rene.

Maybe he could drive to Canada for a bit after 6 months in the USA.  Best to plan that for the Summertime.
