Are there any forum members currently staying at Gunsight wash near Organ pipe cactus national Park?

Tony and Ann with an E. Do you want to do lunch at Granny's Kitchen in Why at noon tomorrow Mountain Time? (2/10/2022)

I read the title and had to open it up. I don't think I have ever heard anyone suggesting to wash a gun sight or asking how to so it.:p:p Now I can sleep okay after reading the thread now.

We did the 21 mile loop today, great views. Take plenty of water and pack a lunch because there are awesome picnic sites.

Thanks for the advice, I've been checking and repairing any dodgy sealant today and it was warm work.

My current FB profile picture was taken at the Organ Pipe Twin Peaks campground. Gorgeous place.

Yes, me right now, a couple of years late to answer.

It's nice here this time of year. I am now just running a fan, no A/C, and all the windows and doors are closed. Very comfy temp. at least today.

This is another area that could handle 100,000 RVs or so. Endless nice sunny places to park. But you do not want to come here in the summer, that would be a place for Cinder Hills, just north of Flagstaff.

I see two other RVs in here as far as I can see, and those two are about a quarter mile from me. We are all close to the pavement of State Hwy 85.

To find the road here from Hwy 85 it is at exactly:

N032.239480°
W112.750630°

When coming from the north, turn right exactly per above and then go to the right on the unpaved road and you will see a sign for the Gunsight Wash BLM area with the rules, such as 14 days max stay, which will be on the left.

Here is what this place looks like, some photos of my older motorhome which is parked now here at Gunsight Wash:

There are some cacti here, but nothing like the area around west of Tucson or Organ Pipe:

I was a little late for that one, I went there today and had the green burrito.

That place was packed today at 1300 hrs. I tried to go there yesterday, but I didn't know then that they close at 1400 hrs. I was there at around 1410 hrs yesterday, so I made sure I was on time today.

Gunsight Wash is not as large as it seems but is still large enough for all at any time.

I hiked to the west for a couple of miles and that was as far as I could go because of a fence that probably goes for many miles. Perhaps it's okay to hike past the fence, I have no idea, but I turned around there and hiked back here to my motorhome. There is a closed gate (photo below).

And other weird things out there far from others, and I have no idea what they are, but see the photos below:

I think this area (which is well on this side of the gate) is closed because there is a large creek next to here which I think contains water for most of the year, dry now, but some of the plants around it look extra green for a desert. I think this is closed to not interfere with the wildlife. I did see a coyote run through this area while I was here:

Here is the gate with a fence that looks like it has no end. So this is as far as one can go at Gunsight Wash to the west.

I find this out in the desert here, far from people, and I cannot even guess what it is about:

Looks like about 3 hrs from me.
165 miles from Benson, 2 hrs and 35 minutes will get you here.

Have you been to Organ Pipe Nat'l Mon before? I am just a few miles to the north. Much better scenery there, of course. But less people and more room here and the price is right (stay here at no cost). And this is a more convenient location, being close to Why and Ajo. There is nothing in Lukeville, they even closed the restaurant there. But that was last year, so there is a chance they reopened, I have not been down there on this trip.

And no quiet hours here, run your genny any time if you're not close to others, unlike at OPCNM.

I have been to Benson a couple of times. I stayed at the SKP there a few years ago.

If you get here in the next few days or so, we can meet.

Put this in your GPS so you know exactly where to turn in from Hwy 85:

N32.239480°
W112.750630°

It could mark a grave perhaps?

I know there were lots of complaints about the big fence because of it being a migration route so perhaps the small one and the signs are to help protect the water source and keep it easily accessible for any wildlife.

Last winter I spent a lot of time at Gunsight. The photos are at the Crazy Lady's camp. There is a jar in the crotch of a tree that contains a notebook where you can add comments. There also is a description of the camp. Years ago there was a lady and her son that camped there. Supposedly there are two graves, one for her dog and another for her horse.

Why has a nice community center where people gather for events.
Here's a link for November activities:
