Hi guys, been a while!

So my RV is prewired for a second AC unit in the bedroom. I don't really want one in there, but I would like to install a tiny ceiling fan instead. In particular, this one here https://www.homedepot.com/p/Home-Decorators-Collection-Novak-14-in-Indoor-Outdoor-Natural-Iron-Oscillating-Ceiling-Fan-with-Remote-Control-YG622-NI/300912149?MERCH=REC-_-Pip_Alternatives_Non_HDhome-_-NA-_-300912149-_-N

Is installing this an option or no? If not, would I be able to install an outlet up there instead so I could find a plug-in version of this?

Thanks!

Yes it can be done. Hire an electrician.

Excellent thanks. Is this something I could DIY or are we talking next level blow-up-the-camper-if-you-try-it difficulty?

Side note: your picture is amazing.

You could DIY however I hesitate to try and tell you how because I cannot see the current installation.

Keep in mind how low it's going to hang low. I would think looking at the pictures, It will be close to 16". I'd hit my head on it every time I sat up in bed. Wouldn't work for me but it may for you.

For that previously unused "pre-wire" connection, your first step should be to assure that that the power is actually available there. In the various trailers like mine (Alpha's), the so-called pre-wire (intended for an additional air conditioner) was located in the 12V fan location on the ceiling ok but the other end was never connected in the 120V breaker box. The end that was supposed to be connected there was found, variously, in the rear cap or next to the breaker box and, often, not long enough to connect, etc. It was a fairly common problem with this brand of trailer at that time.

For the particular model you showed, it would appear that the intention is mount it to a ceiling or wall using plastic plugs. I doubt this would work very well in an RV ceiling as they are not thick enough to do this, unlike the 1/2" piece of wall board used in a normal home ceiling. A ceiling joist would be very necessary. (The original intended air conditioner would be supported on the outside of the roof, and not by screws through the inside ceiling panel).
