My wife and I are planning on spending about a week touring the everglades. I had planned on staying at the Florida City campground. Does anyone have  experience ( good or bad )  at this park ?

Also looking for recommendations on things to do and see in the everglades ??

I used to live in Homestead and just returned from there attending the NASCAR race.  I passed the Florida City park and it seemed full already.  Having never stayed there I would hesitate to rate it but would consider it average.  There are some new RV parking spaces on Biscayne Blvd, east of US1.  I passed them several times but did not note their names so can't help you there.  If you drive east on Biscayne from US1 they will be just after the second traffic light on the left (north) side.  Wish I could help more.

We lived at Southern Comfort Campground in Florida City in 1985-6. It was a great place back then but that was a long time ago. Mike worked at Shark Valley, Everglades which was a pretty neat place....bike rides, tram ride out to a tower, used to be a local casino with great Indian Tacos. The birding in Everglades is incredible. And if you're into chuckles, you can take your picture at Rock Reef Pass, Elev. 3 feet.....being from Colorado, we got a big hoot out of biking our way over that 'pass' and stopping to take our picture. And if the agricultural fields are still around and not turned into condos, gleaning the fields is fun, gets you fresh produce, and saves $$ on the grocery bill.

Enjoy

freezing in Colorado and thinking Florida wasn't such a bad place to live after all.....

They have stopped allowing that Wendy.? I did not get a chance to ride down to the Everglades but was told they have fenced in the fields.

Well, that's a bummer. One of my best memories of Florida was realizing that those big piles of dirt we're actually red potatoes that were too small for the machines and filling my bicycle basket with them. They were wonderful !! And then trading the extra potatoes I had gathered for green beans, tomatoes, and other goodies that others in the RV park had gleaned. What do they do, let it all sit and rot?

We stayed in Florida City some a few years ago for a couple of winters. We used it as a base to explore the Keys. As I recall the city park looked kind of seedy and didn't have any fence around it.
We stayed at the Goldcoaster just down from the post office and it was very nice. Fenced and gated, nice sites, great folks.

We just left there. Spent 4 days there.  $22.10 per night. Used it for a base camp.  Gone most of the time during the day.  There are alot of older rv's and folks here.  The park is clean, and the people were friendly.  It was quiet at night, even on the weekend.    All sites are 30A, back ins only.  There are W/E sites and,  FHU sites might be on the wrong side.  So if you a MH, you may pull in.  If you have a diesel,  fuel up before you get here.  Very few stations will handle a large RV.  Priced from $2.59 to $2.99.  Gas was cheapest at the Circle K around MM 106 on HWY 1, in Key largo.

They DO NOT take resv.  But i would all ahead for availability.  305.248.7889.  What we saved on camping, we spent on key lime pie, in the tree house in key west.

Enjoy your stay
