Hi all,
My name is Maggie and I live in the Southwest Orlando area with my 14 year-old daughter. I work from home and we homeschool, so we decided it would be a wonderful plan to do some exploring, RV style. I have some experience with RVing (friends and family members), but most will be new to me.
I just purchased a 1994 Four Winds (Ford E350). Why a 1994, you ask? Basically it was all I could afford for now (don't even ask about the 1977 I almost bought). Anyway, it's old, but seems to be in good condition. It has about 30,000 miles on it, runs great, looks ok. All appliances work well, etc. I picked it up in Sanford drove it about 60 miles to Kissimmee yesterday and it handled well. I have someone doing a t/u on it now and checking for any issues. Then, it will need a serious cleaning.
I have been on this forum for a few weeks and am so happy to read all of the advice that everyone is offering (getting the one I was looking at inspected, which led me to a much better RV and purchasing a coach-net membership, etc.). I would love some suggestions of great places to visit and where to stay while we're there. Also, any safety advice for a single mom with a daughter traveling alone (we do have a dog with a great bark that will be traveling with us also)???.
Looking forward to a great adventure!
Maggie

Hi Maggie,

Welcome to the forum. You might want to try out the RV not too far from home just to get used to it. I would suggest Jetty Park on Cape Canaveral. Not too far from Kissimmee and a wonderful beach to enjoy.

We live in Titusville.

I would suggest camping at home for a weekend. It is so much easier to run in the house for that can opener you forget to pack.

Set it up just like you are camping and try everything, put things away and see how everything works and fits. The next weekend try a campground like Jim suggested, CLOSE to a Wal-mart (for those things you still forgot.)

Enjoy and take it slow. There is a learning curve and it might get frustrating at times but we are here to help. When things are at it's worst (RV wise) it will all pale in comparison when you find that perfect spot to camp at and think, Things just don't get better than this!!!

Steve

Good advice above. Start out near home so you can get some experience.

I'm not far away if there are questions or problems - a ways north of you near Ocala.

Thanks all!
Any recommendations for inexpensive storage near the Kissimmee or Southwest Orlando area???
I'm in an apartment here and was told (before I bought it) that it probably wouldn't be a problem parking it here because there's so many unused parking areas. They informed me today that I can't keep it here, even temporarily. I'm supposed to pick it up tomorrow from the guy who did the t/u for me. I have called many storage places in the area and they have no spaces available. I'm gonna keep looking, but figured I'd throw it out there.
