I just asked my first question, so figured a proper introduction post was in order  ;D

My husband and I are in our late 40's. We live in Israel with our two boys, aged 15 and 17. In the past decade, we've traveled extensively in the US and Canada, road tripping through 45 states and 4 Canadian provinces and territories. We even drove from LA to Alaska and back last summer.

We've never RV'ed though. We want to - but never have. We do want to give it a try though. In fact, our plan for a few years from now (once DH goes into early retirement) is to buy and keep an RV in the US or Canada. Then we'll be able to hop over for long trips in our own RV once or twice a year.

So, I'm researching and learning everything I can about RV's! I've been lurking for a while but finally took the plunge and posted my first question. Looking forward to getting to know all the great people here in this forum!

Welcome!  You have done more traveling here than most of our folks that live here!  RV-ing is a great way of life.  Not knowing your particulars let me just offer this up.  Friends of ours came over, bought a used RV through a Montana LLC,  No sales tax etc.  Easy.  Then they traveled extensively for about 8 years, travel 6 months, then store the RV for 6 and come back.  It worked out very well for them, and when they decided they were done doing this, they sold it to me.

Some I have heard from have come in and bought a used rig, traveled for a number of months then sell it at the end.  You would take a hit, but it would be less than renting.

Thanks! Yes, renting is way too expensive. In season it's about $250 a day for us with the kind of insurance we need. It we rent for six months, we can just as well buy an RV for the amount... Plus, rentals have mileage restrictions on them.

We're toying with the idea of doing a cheap rental, moving an RV to Alaska in springtime (not this year though). Since we already drove the Alcan (and the Cassiar too for that matter), we won't be rushed in terms of sightseeing and can really do this in leisure and take time to see how we like RV'ing.
