My wife and I are now retired and looking to get back into travelling. Our love of camping started back when we were dating, in a borrowed WW-II Pup Tent (cold and wet)
Several tents later we got tired of sleeping on the ground. By then we had our two children and needed something better. So we bought a used pop-up trailer (more repairs than time camping); yet made it all over the east coast and Canada as far as Cape Breton Island. The wife said, no more outdoor showers and toilets, so we purchased a 30' TT, traditional stick rigid insulated panel style. We got a lot of use out of that trailer, but it simply was not that durable. Anyways we sold it 15 years ago figuring that was the last of our camping days until retirement. So I am choosing very carefully this time around. We have narrowed it down to either an Oliver or and Airstream. We visited the Oliver yesterday. The build quality of these is simply amazing. More along the lines of what you would see in a High-End Class A. Accessibility of plumbing and wiring is the best I have seen and they are a true 4 seasons camper (down to around -4 degrees) due to the insulated double hull design. But, they may just be too small for us. I am 6' 1" and wide in the shoulders, a back sleeper, so the double beds seem just a bit too small for me and my head brushes the ceiling in the shower. The wife also wanted more storage than these provide. But to repeat, the best build quality I have seen so far. So, we want to look at Airstreams although due to the higher cost of new units were looking for a used unit. Oliver is very transparent about the build process, during the tour we could see much of the build process. Does anyone know of any videos that show some of the build details of Airstreams?
Also, would appreciate any tips on what to watch out for in a sued Airstream i.e. common problem issues in used units.
Thanks in advance for any support.
