I'm thinking a dehumidifier may be as important at protectant. That faux leather doesn't like humidity. I've had one running in our RV since we've owned it. It pulls a ton of water from the inside.
Sorry I am late to this party. My experience, like others, is not good. A bit of research I did suggested UV / sun light can speed the degradation of the surface. Jackie's comment will help. Keeping them covered when not in use will also help. Good Luck!
