FYI for those thinking about a small generator:
Hurricane michael (yes a small "m") destroyed the bedroom portion of my home along with 85% of the county power poles. We were fortunate to have the MH to move into immediately. With power out and no chance of being available for weeks we resorted to generator. The Onan was cranked for the first day but gas availability was almost non-existent.
Out came the Honda 2000i. Long story-short the little red ran almost continuously for 405 hours. It would run for 45 to 50 hours then be shut down only long enough for a oil change. Averaging 2.5 to 3 gallons of gas per day was a BIG blessing. Using the aux fuel tank no worries about running out of gas during the night. (On day 3 after storm we drove to another town 2 hours away in the pick up with a 50 gallon storage tank in the back for fuel.)
We were blessed to have air conditioning, hot showers, confy bed ETC.
It was a real torture test of the little red Honda to perform flawlessly for 16 days running the RV with air conditioning.
Est fuel for Onan 16 days X 12 gallons a day = 192 gallons
Honda 16 days X 2.8 gallons per day = 45 gallons (Actual use was 49 gallons)
Electric came back on day16 at 8:16 PM and it should be noted two old people were seen celebrating in the driveway waving arms and hollering THERE IS LIGHT! The little generator seemed to breathe a sigh of relief to no longer be responsible for our comfort. Little red was treated to new oil and returned to its resting place in the shop.
Shop and house is expecting repairs in appox 5 months based upon current contractors and the fact that most all roofs in bay county will be repaired or replaced. Mean while we became full timers and are getting along just fine in the Winnie.
