Hi all, my Onan Emerald 3 6500 generator has been out of commission for 2 years now due to a bad bearing on the gen end. I had pulled it apart and replaced the bearing, cleaned it all up and put it back in and never produced power. Seems that the rotor shorted out from what rewinders are saying. It will cost any where's between 5-700 to have it rewound, the unit has around 700 hrs on it and the engine starts and runs good. I'm not sure I feel like tearing it down again or replace it with a nice clean Honda EV6000 water cooled unit, this one purrs like a kitten and I don't think I'll miss the less 500 watts and, I see parts a ready available for this unit. What do you guys think? The seller is asking 800 dollars

The specs make it a stationary genset, or mounted in an RV; but if it runs and generates 50A I'd take a look at it if I had a small trailer to mount it on for home use.

Do you have the name of the place that rewound yours? Chicago is 1 hour from me, the one I found is in California, shipping cost would be a factor

we have made a agreement for 700, I'm picking it up Saturday. I've seen them on other sites as low as 500 in working condition. Ebay can list them for whatever they want but, they don't always sell for that, I would never pay that kind of money without an in person look no matter what their ratings are. I have read someone saying these ev4010 or 6010's last between 2000-3000 hours but, I saw on today one that had 5500 hours for 500 dollars. I will be looking this over and will bring some power drawing heaters to load this down. I hoping it will be good and I don't have to tear mine apart again

those are the 2 places I looked at, shipping to Cal and back would be a couple hundred dollars I'd expect. Hopefully this will be a good one, I asked about it producing power and he stated he checked the voltage on each leg with a Fluke and showed good, I think I need to see a 1500 watt heater or 2 working off of it, he says ok

purchased the Honda today for 700. What a nice smooth generator and much quieter than the Onan even running at double the rpm. It is missing the original plastic cooling reservoir and the exhaust heat shield which are available for purchase. Now I'll try to figure out how to use the existing generator start buttons in the motorhome to power this one
