My entry door occasionally hits the door frame near the lock when closing.  The tolerance at door frame is very close.  I can't help but wonder if my door hinge is sprung.  Please take a look at the photo of my door hinge.  The hinge ends do not line up as I might expect.  Do I have a probem and if so, how difficult is it to replace the hinge?

Oh yeah, Go OSU Cowboys!

Rex - my door hinge looks something like that, but I think yours is more out of line than mine.  I'll take a picture of mine tomorrow.  Our door never hits the frame by the lock.

Rex,

This looks like what may be the result of a door being caught by the wind and being thrown open. The hinge systems can only take so much and after a while would cause that type of misalignment.  If that is the case, the only real fix would be to have the hinge replaced, which I am sure would be pricey.

You might consider the door strap that some of us have used to control the door from slamming open to keep the hinge from getting worse.

My hinges look a lot alike yours except not as bad. I do not have any problems. The hinges are mounted with 4 screws for each side making 16 screws total. There should be no problem replacing them if you are somewhat handy with tools. Just replace them one at a time. I would not expect a large cost per hinge either.

I usually get my parts from winnebagoparts.com in Hanlontown, IA. They need your model and serial number to get all the proper information. Do not attempt to order by part number because if you are wrong, tough. If they are wrong things workout better. Other Winnebago owners have their own favorite suppliers. I recently checked the prices at our friendly Winnebago dealer and I am almost convinced the parts are about as cheap there.

The key tumbler came out with the key when my wife was unlocking the door. The cost of the lock assembly was estimated to be about $100 from the dealer and cost me $110 plus postage from winnebagoparts.

Having the added weight of that Oklahoma sticker could make the door swing poorly. Maybe changing it to The Ohio State University or University of Tennessee would help?  ;D

Sorry but there are times I can't help myself.......

My OSU emblem adds at least two miles per gallon by increasing my slipstream.  :)

Rex - here's my bottom hinge.  Middle hinge is more aligned and the top hinge looks worse than this picture, but not as bad as yours.

John,

Thanks for sharing the photo.  I spoke with Bryan at Winnebago.  It appears I can change out the hinges myself.  Bryan suggested I take a look at the internal workings of the arm mechanism that stops the door at 90 degrees.  He said this mechanism may need replaced as well.  It tends to make a popping sound when it is going bad.  It can be viewed by taking the internal plastic cover off the door.  I haven't had a chance to pursue this but will soon.

Rex - if you need to replace the keeper arm, ask Bryan how difficult it would be install the 2006 version which is stronger.  Winnie factory service retrofitted the '06 arm on mine.

John,

Does the new keeper arm mount in the same location as the old arm?

John, I looked at a 2006 Tour today and it looked the same as the keeper arm on my door.  Possibly they started installing them in late 2006.

Rex,

My door hinge looks the same it does not hit,  but the 90 degree stop is not working the one thing I do notice is the door will rattle at highway speeds and I am wondering if it is related to too much movement in the hinge, do you notice this as well?

Did you get a price on the parts, it looks like an easy do it yourself project.

Thanks
Dave

Did a short trip to the US this weekend (it was a long weekend for those of us north of the boarder) and was able at the same time could drop by the Niagara Falls New York mail box and pick up my door parts.  I replaced the door keeper with the ?new style? keeper on my Itasca 40AD.  By the way when I called to order the part I asked for the 2006 version and after double checking the 2005 version no longer exists only the newer style is available.  I have posted some photos to show the new and old parts.  As John has pointed out changes are not visible once installed.  I also found the cause of my rattle in the door it was the broken piece of plastic that was the heart of the issue.  It turned out to be a very easy replacement job.  Next I am going to replace the hinges that I also ordered.  Always find a pictures help so hopefully these are useful!

Can you provide the part numbers of the new door stop.  I could not figure out the Winnie diagram to determine which were the door stop parts.  And do you think the new parts are a big improvement?

I got a price quote for the new hinges at Lichtsinn:  Part no. 128913-12-73, price is 36.65.  I haven't order new hinges yet.  If someone else replaces theirs I would like to hear a report.

From looking at the 2005 and 2006 parts diagrams from the 36RD Vectra I see these parts:

2005:
54 128913-01-733 EA DOOR CHECK KIT - ADJ SUB ASM V196-04
62 128913-02-714 EA GUIDE BLOCK - DOOR CHECK 146-042045

2006:
54 128913-15-707 EA DOOR CHECK KIT W/HOUSING 490043
62 128913-02-714 EA GUIDE BLOCK - DOOR CHECK 146-042045

It looks like the GUIDE BLOCK is unchanged, but the DOOR CHECK KIT does seem to have a new number.  Can you confirm that this is the part you got?

I ordered the kit that came with the door check kit and guide block since my Guide block was broken as well.  The part number I have for this was 128913-15-713 at a cost of $94.35 and used all the parts except the mount on the door jam.
I order my hinges at $33.70 each my part number was 128913-12-703 and all these numbers are based on 40AD.
I have not changed the hinges yet on the list of things to do.
As far as the door stop goes, can't comment too much on it as I got this unit used and it was broken from the time I owned it and did not catch it under the 30 day warranty the dealer gave  :(.  It does look to me that if the check is broken there is a good chance the guide block will also be broken.
