A member asked how a friend could remove a hornet nest located between an RV roof and a solar panel without damaging either one. Members suggested nighttime treatment because hornets are usually back at the nest then, with several recommending foam-style hornet spray, while one suggested Sevin dust and another suggested a pressure washer, though others warned that blasting the nest could scatter hornets and create a dangerous situation.

She had a professional come out today and take care of the nest, etc. Turns out they were yellow jackets.

Good news. But she still needs to watch. They will return.
They've found a nice protected nesting area.

She is there all season and checking with pro to if there is something to keep them away.

Strange. Yellow Jackets usually make their nests in the ground.
There are yellowjacket bees which nest in the ground and yellow jacket wasps which nest in trees or RV roofs in this case.

We have both the ground and above ground nesting in central Ab. When it gets hot and dry in the fall they really get aggressive.

Just ask my ankles. I was cutting grass and they came out the ground. Probably stung 5-10 times.

As far as I know, they haven't found a home in one of the motorhome AC units. However, we get 3 or 4 of these under the eves of the s/b every year. I hit them early in the morning with Spectracide Pro and they're dead. If any are on the nest, they literally fall to their death.

My wife is highly allergic so we don't take any chances. One time she stepped on a bee while walking at the beach. Her foot turned beet red. Ended up needing daily treatment a the hospital for a week. Would not want that to happen while traveling.

I am also allergic to bee and wasp stings. I started when I got stung numerous times in my ankle by the ground yellow jackets.
My doctor had me start carrying an EPI pen.
