A member reported being hospitalized after two hard falls, sudden severe weakness in the ankles and legs, bruising, a painful rib injury, and a punctured or collapsed lung requiring a tube and later surgery. He said doctors were still running tests, including examining his brain, and he arranged for nearby neighbors to help with shopping, driving, cleaning, his RV contents, car, and cat while he recovers.

Other RVers offered support and shared their own fall-related experiences, including...

I just had the worst week of my life. I had two very hard falls last week, but neither were severe enough to trip my watch. I had zero pot, zero alcohol, zero drugs nor zero women in my system. My ankles had become so week they no longer worked. I could not walk one step without falling. So after a week I gave up and called 911 and got admitted to Osceola Hospital a few days ago. One of my falls caused me to bruise a rib and I am in pain. My legs and arms look like WW2.

I feel like I am at Hotel California where you can check in but never leave, I have a lot of problems. My brain is being examined, my ribs hurt, I have a tube in my lungs to keep adding air so they no longer colappse and my legs are very week. So they have a lot to work on. I also have a catheter in me. So far no conclusions just tests.

I am going to be useless for a while so I made a trade with a neighbor couple who live two doors away. They are being my butlers for me and do all my shopping, driving and cleaning for me and I am leaving them my car and the contents of my RV and my cat.

I am going to be using this forum as a log for family and friends to keep up with me. I am ten miles east of Disney World in case anyone wants to stop by.

Ouch Tom, sorry to hear that. As we get older, falls happen easier and the results get more significant. Hope you heal quickly and fully.

Oh Tom that's awful. Really hope they can get you up and moving again.

Every doctor I see asks if I have had any falls in the last 12 months. I think it is a Medicare-required question, and I understand why they ask it. Best of luck to you.

Wow! I'm sorry things got that way for you, Tom. The weak ankles (and legs) I'm starting to understand, though I've not yet fallen.

Here's hoping that they can get you straightened out and back home soon.

Same here.

The problem is I enjoy jiu-jitsu and boxing and that goes with the territory.

BTW I just turned 66.

I hope they know what’s going on by now. Good luck and good doctors to you.

You know you’re old when you fall down and nobody laughs. I’ve fallen twice in the last couple of months. Both times were dog related. Nobody laughed except the dogs.

You could have at least waited until you got OLD to start all this,,your not even wearing the badge yet despite having the scars..>>>Dan

I've always had a poor sense of balance, and felt I could easily fall. Earlier this year I was picking up mail at our OH townhome. They'd plowed/scraped the driveway, but hadn't yet put down salt. I realized this as I slipped on ice walking back up the driveway. Instantaneously I knew not to struggle and fall flat on my face, and figured I could either fall to my left onto concrete, or to my right onto 18-24" of snow on the lawn. Somehow I made the right choice.

Got my cell phone off my belt and called Chris to say "please come pick me up", which she was quite used to hearing since my failed knee surgery in 2023. Several minutes went by and I wondered where she was; Glad I had my winter coat and gloves on while laying in the snow. Chris didn't realize I was outside, and was looking for me on the floor of the basement. She finally figured it out and came out to get me.

Helluva' time to play hide & seek! :D Glad you made out ok. (y)

I had a similar fall walking across a snow covered driveway with a bucket of wood ashes I had planned to spread for traction on the hill. Didn't know there was solid ice under the snow. WHAM! Feet flew out and I fell hard on my butt with a shower of wood ashes raining down on me. Quite a site.

Yikes man. I feel for you. I had a fall a year or so ago in my driveway going to check my mail. I hit on both of my knees, and one hand/arm took some of the fall. I didn't think it was that bad, though even with my neighbors help (he luckily saw me go down from his garage), I couldn't get back up. I ended up crawling over to my ditch, and was able to sit on the side and get up. Then the neighbor helped me climb out of the ditch. I didn't think much of it, but after a couple of days, my entire right leg started turning all kinds of weird colors. And I could barely walk. I went to the doctor, and nothing was broken/shattered/otherwise. But from my ankle to the top of my thigh bruised up pretty bad. It took almost a month for it to start clearing up. And at least another month before I could walk without assistance (a cane). Here a year later, all is well, but I still have "bruises" on my right knee and thigh. No pain, and I'm able to walk fine, but my balance is pretty "shaky". Anyway, hope you are able to get back to some normal semblance your regular life. Take it easy man.

On a positive note Seilerbird it looks like your brain is functioning quite well so that's a plus. And, obviously, you eye to hand coordination is good as you are able to key in all your comments so keep after it and get well soon.
