A member reported being hospitalized after two hard falls, sudden severe weakness in the ankles and legs, bruising, a painful rib injury, and a punctured or collapsed lung requiring a tube and later surgery. He said doctors were still running tests, including examining his brain, and he arranged for nearby neighbors to help with shopping, driving, cleaning, his RV contents, car, and cat while he recovers.

My experience with hospital food was mixed. For some reason the doctor put me on salt restriction. They brought breakfast and said no when I asked for some salt for the cold scrambled eggs. 20 minutes later a nurse came in with an electrolyte mixture for me to drink ‘because my sodium was dangerously low’.

Hyponatremia. 10% to 30% of all hospitalized patients but they usually say you're "low on fluids" and then give you the saltwater IV.
Biggest scam in the medical industry. They tell patients not to eat salt. Lasix and other drugs prescribed to control edema are actually salt.
Studies show those who consume 4x the recommended have the lowest blood pressure.
Salt does not restrict blood vessels, low nitric oxide does.

When my cardiologist was trying to figure out why my blood pressure was low (90/60) and I kept getting light-headed one thing she said was to eat more salt - she said I should be taking in between 4-8 grams of salt per day.

It is a carboxylic acid & is most frequently administered in its sodium salt form for solubility & therapeutic use. Patented salt.

As for workers taking salt tablets, I was one of them. Doesn't make you retain water. Replenishes the sodium lost in sweating, so you can continue sweating, so you don't get heat stroke.

Quite the opposite. Years ago there were salt tablets in factories to help the workers retain water.

If you ever took Lasix you would know the difference.
Yup. Back when I was in the army at Ft. Benning, every table in a mess-hall had a bowl of salt tablets during summer months. Everyone had to swallow at least one tablet.
I recall having difficulty keeping my boots shined because first I had to use a wet rag to clean off all the salt stains, let them dry(required alternating pairs of boots), then polish them to a high shine again.
Now I'm on a salt-free diet due to high BP and stage 3 kidney disease.

The photos of the hospital food are convincing me to post photos from our recent hospital excursion. Kevin and I just got home from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where he got an aortic valve replacement. They used a catheter through his groin arteries to put it in, so no open heart surgery! He’s doing great, just a little sore. Mayo is a miracle of organization, and I am really quite impressed. The food was also really good! Kevin got pot roast with carrots, a roll, ice cream, and a drink. I was able to order a “patient visitor tray” with all kinds of items for the kingly price of $8! Salmon, asparagus, roasted potatoes, fruit, dessert, and a drink for me. I had the fruit this morning for breakfast. Hospital food has come a long way!
