In a photography forum I stumbled across a reference to gigapxl cameras and the gigapxl project (see http://www.gigapxl.org/).

The info in these pics is incredible, but then they are gigapxl images.

Just as a for instance, pick the riverboats image, scroll down to find the forlorn Santa Claus, and then go up one image and locate where the Santa Claus is in the larger image.

Or, how about the lights and catwalk in the distant bridge.

Ciao,

Doug

Essentially, if cameras scan in a fraction of pixels from throughout a scene?say, 3 or 4 percent, or just thousands of pixels?new algorithms can take such data and extrapolate out what the original image appeared like.

Ned, I wonder if some of these new algorithms are as yet making their way into the likes of Genuine Fractals or PhotoZoom or other res-up software?

Ciao,

Doug

Chet, I had a look at the site you pointed to.  Strikes me this is much like the gigapxl site I pointed you to.  Perhaps there is an overlap of folks working on the gigapxl gig :).

Ciao,

Doug
